my eyes are going bad
for years, i have run on a 19" monitor at 1280x1024
today, i decided to back it off to 1024x768 so i can see
sigh - now i hafta adjuast everything

it's not like a can throw in the towel and say "life's over", either
i have to live up to what Zara has done, which isn't easy

on the bright side ( :P ), you guys won't have to put up with me too much longer   :bdg

Well you could upgrade to a 28" at 1920x1200, $250, down-rating an LCD is surely going to get you a bunch of fuzzy interpolated pixels, wouldn't you rather get something sharper?
It could be a random act of randomness. Those happen a lot as well.

Or try glasses, like me :bg
Firefox has a nice feature called Zoom text only...

Dave,

Just get some reading glasses, I did the same years ago but when my arms were not long enough to read the newspaper, I stopped kidding myself and bought some reading glasses.

I currently use a 24 inch LCD screen with standard sized fonts at 1920 x 1080 and it is super clear and I am still using the standard sized fonts, this can be tweaked upwards if needed.

glasses - got that - lol
i will probably go get a new perscription

you guys are right, though - reducing the resolution is not the answer
everything just got bigger... and fuzzier   :lol
i went back to 1280x1024 and adjusted all the display appearance settings - that's a little better
tomorrow, i will make some little "stilts" for my keyboard to sit on
then, i can move the monitor closer to me

thing is, it seems to be a light issue
my uncle went blind with glaucoma - i may have to be tested for that

Tedd

Try adjusting the DPI setting.. (bigger text, same resolution, no fuzz)

Display Properties: Settings -> Advanced; DPI Setting: Large Size (120 DPI)

Also ensure good lighting, etc.

And you should have an eye pressure test - it's simple enough, and can be controlled with pills (or cannabis :wink) if necessary.

thanks, Tedd   :U

not sure i want to go with the pot, though - lol
my uncle was blind, and my aunt had alzheimer's
the one got lost, and the other couldn't see to find her

it will be like that with Z and i if i go with the pot
she has meds that make her "oozy" - all i need is to be stoned

A decrease in accommodation with age is normal. People who are myopic retain the ability to focus close up, but people who start out with normal vision, as is my case, don't. I run 1280x1024 on a 21-inch CRT, and to put it in focus without reading glasses I have to approximately double my normal ~24 inch viewing distance.

until recently, i could see quite well up close if i took my glasses off
my problem is, i have built everything in my life around electronics
with bad eyesight, i will be pretty much useless   :P
schematics, meters, scopes - all of it
not to mention the components keep getting smaller
would you believe they actually still put numbers on some of them ?   :eek

dedndave

i dug up a font i had installed on a previous build - that helps a little, too

a nice programming font...

I've also reluctantly agreed with the mirror that I'm going blind at short range... Long range is perfect - I can see my wife's knockers at 500m, no problem  :U

I used to get prescription glasses with cost ~ZAR2000 each time. The problem is that when I took them off I was blind at any range.
Then somebody told me about cheapy 1.5x focals going for ZAR100... got these and all problems went away (including financial  :toothy)
..and my 500m range came back into focus... once again I was a happy chappy  :8)

Van,

I did the same thing, my prescription used to cost a couple of hundred buck a hit then I discovered $2.00 chinese glasses that work fine so I have them at different strengths all over the house and if I lose a pair I just pick out another pair I have floating around.
