All this chatter solves nothing and Congress in their infinite treachery will do what they please. They have done so for the last 30 years or so
and now we see the condition of our country. Deep in debt, with a Congress that cares only about their privileged pension and elite Health care,
soon to be socialized, passing garbage like NAFTA and GAT and all the other free trade crap that has lost millions of jobs  and devastated entire towns throughout the country. Is a Dictatorship Next?

I am a member of the despicable unwashed, not worth worrying about, Hence Euthanasia. Don't worry the rest of you will be 65 sooner
or later then you can Kiss your butt goodbye. I am a science fiction fan and there have been many scenarios depicted about this subject.

Do I sound bitter, You betcha, My Golden years are finished.

Sorry Cycle Saddles we are on different boats.

WARNING - don't go past your 64th birthday. It is hazardous to your health.

Saw a very disturbing email the other day. It depicted senior citizens sitting on a small Ice floe going out
to sea Eskimo style. Thank you Mr Obama.........

Those of you years away from being 65 think it will never happen to you.  Keep head in sand. At least you won't get sunburned

Jack you really need to get a grip on yourself buddy, you are simply over reacting. There is no stopping it now, Healthcare reform is coming. Quit listening to the bullshit coming out of the mouths of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly and all those gun-toting loonytune wackos from the right. I'm heading towards 59 and feel like a kid (well kind of) in less then seven more years I'll turn 65 and since we will all have universal health care and Medicare here in the states I have nothing to worry about except for maybe wrecking my motorcycle. :bg

Obama is a good man and I'm thankful he's our president.

Just because someone sends you an e-mail, does not
mean you have to believe it.  At least apply some rule
of thumb.  Mars is never going to appear as large as
the moon.  Nigeria is not going to send you millions of
dollars.  By the time you have to worry about ice floes,
global warming will have melted them.

i am with Steve, there
95+ % of all the politically oriented e-mails are originated by parties with monetary gain at stake
they will say whatever it takes, and if you notice, they are very carefully crafted
many of them appear to have been created by very skilled advertisers and/or "spin-doctors" (i.e. very well paid)
they are usually designed so that you can't help but agree with them, no matter what the issue is

In other words propaganda fed to and believed by the gullible.

it seems to be effective, too
i get garbage like that forwarded to me quite often
issues that the sender wasn't originally interested in are now, somehow, strangely important to them - lol
certainly, some of the info may be true - some is not
the point is, it ALWAYS has a spin on it
the originators of these e-mails know what they are doing
and, they are cleverly disguised as something "Joe and Martha Sixpack" may have put together
sometimes, they are formed as "petitions", which can't be petitions, as they are only valid if signed by registered voters, etc
they want you to see how many others they have sucked into believing them - lol
fortunately, i am capable of making up my own mind without reading my e-mail
they go into the bit-bucket, along with the lottery scams

Please excuse this somewhat incomplete email. Had a terrible time transferring it from TB into this FF web site.
Never could get this Black ladies picture to transfer.
I didn't write ANY of this.

                                              This is a must read.
                                          Back on Uncle Sam's plantation
                                Star Parker - Syndicated Columnist

Six years ago I wrote a book called Uncle Sam's Plantation.
I wrote the book to tell my own story of what I saw living inside the welfare
state and my own transformation out of it.  I said in that book that indeed there
are two Americas -- a poor America on socialism and a wealthy America on
capitalism.

I talked about government programs like  Temporary Assistance for
Needy Families (TANF), Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training(JOBS),
Emergency Assistance to Needy Families with Children (EANF), Section 8
Housing, and Food Stamps.
A vast sea of perhaps well-intentioned  government programs, all initially
set into motion in the 1960s, that were going to lift the nation's poor out of
poverty.
A benevolent Uncle Sam welcomed mostly poor black Americans onto
the government plantation. Those who accepted the invitation switched mind-
sets from "How do I take care of myself?" to "What do I have to do to stay on
the plantation?"
Instead of solving economic problems, government welfare socialism
created monstrous moral and spiritual problems -- the kind of problems that
are inevitable when individuals turn responsibility for their lives over to
others.
The legacy of American socialism is our blighted inner cities, dysfunc-
tional inner city schools, and broken black families.
Through God's grace, I found my way out. It was then that I understood
what freedom meant and how great this country is.
I had the privilege of working on welfare reform in 1996, passed by
a Republican Congress and signed 50  percent.
I thought we were on the road to moving socialism out of our poor
black communities and replacing it with wealth-producing American
capitalism.
But, incredibly, we are going in the opposite direction.
Instead of poor America on socialism becoming more like rich
American on capitalism, rich America on capitalism is becoming like
poor America on socialism.
Uncle Sam has welcomed our banks onto the plantation and they have
said, "Thank you, Suh."  Now, instead of thinking about what creative
things need to be done to serve customers, they are thinking about what they
have to tell Massah in order to get their cash.
There is some kind of irony that this is all happening under our first
black president on the 200th anniversary of the birthday of Abraham Lincoln.
Worse, socialism seems to be the element of our new young president.
And maybe even more troubling, our corporate executives seem happy to
move onto the plantation.
In an op-ed on the opinion page of the Washington Post, Mr. Obama
is clear that the goal of his trillion dollar spending plan is much more than
short term economic stimulus.
"This plan is more than a prescription for short-term spending -- it's a
strategy for America 's long-term growth and opportunity in areas such as
renewable energy, healthcare,  and education."
Perhaps more incredibly, Obama seems to think that government taking
over an economy is a new idea. Or that massive growth in government
can take place "with unprecedented transparency and accountability."
Yes, sir, we heard it from Jimmy Carter when he created the De-
partment of Energy, the SynfuelsCorporation, and the Department of
Education.
Or how about the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 -- The War
on Poverty -- which President Johnson said  "...does not merely expand
old programs or improve what is already being done. It charts a new
course. It strikes at the causes, not just the consequences of poverty."
Trillions of dollars later, black poverty is the same. But black
families are not, with triple the incidence of single-parent homes and
out-of-wedlock births.
It's not complicated. Americans can accept Barack Obama's in-
vitation to move onto the plantation. Or they can choose personal re-
sponsibility and freedom.
Does anyone really need to think about what the choice should be?
"The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other
people's money."

that's all ? seriously it's ridiculous :

1. making the parallel with attempts that didn't work before is not only anachronous, but pityful... if you know a country that never made politic mistake... name it.

2. it's full of non sens... :

> resolving economics problems ?
he he, is it a joke ? the current situation IS the result of capitalism (not socialism), who give to others country the jobs that should be done by the americans ? just because it's cheaper...

> the monstrous moral and spiritual problems ?
i suppose it's not monstrous to let the bankers doing what they did, and will continue to do...

> the kind of problems that are inevitable when individuals turn responsibility for their lives over to others ?
yeah sure, and the problems generated by capitalism that consist of exploited the others, just to make money, and let the problems (the cost to the others people..., yeah, for this the others we don't care, i suppose...)

> The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money ?
wow... just wow... i was sure that was the result of capitalism that the people loose their home (and all the money they've paid for, before), how i could be wrong like that ? seriously, who play with the money of the others ???

> This plan is more than a prescription for short-term spending -- it's a strategy for America 's long-term growth and opportunity in areas such as renewable energy, healthcare, and education
so what ? is it not the purpose of politic to provide valid solutions in long term ? or maybe you think that the situation is fine and you shouldn't change anything ?

3. where are the propositions ? just critics ? yeah, so easy... and if there is no propositions, it's because there is not enough money, and if there is not enough money, it's because the capitalism system have failed (and for a more longer period than you imagine,... you have made a wrong choice to let others people producing your goods, just because it was cheaper... money Escape from your country, slowly but irremediably... ).
anyway, without propositions, and since you CAN'T continue like that without SERIOUS problems for a large portion of people, how can someone be opposed to this plan ?

While I agree that it's not the result of socialism, it's also not the result of capitalism. As has been said, more than anything else it is the result of a failure of ethics.

::) failure of ethics, dicted by the need to be ALWAYS more productive, to ALWAYS obtain quick gain, etc..., so CAPITALISM ! you can hide yourself behind others principle if you want, but the facts are the facts...

hutch--

There is a bit of confusion here in the use of terms, Capitalism != Fascism. Fascism is generally the combination of BIG business and Government in bed together greasing each others palms where Capitalism is competition based on profit. It is when Fascism masquerades as Capitalism that you get the problems that have been around in the last 15 years or so.

The role of government comes into play to set the rules for an economy so that it works in the long haul but short term grubby grabs for a quick buck have a long history of getting in the way to the detriment of an economy in the longer haul.

Its "slash and burn" at an economic level for those in a position to get away with it until they are arseh*led out the door but by then its too late, they have already raped and pillaged the entire economy and taken the proceeds elsewhere. One can but wonder why Haliburton and a few others are now set up in Dubai AFTER they ripped off US taxpayers to the tune of billions.

Its a sign of age that i confess to being a free enterprise lasseiz faire capitalist, BIG CROOKED business does not want competition, they lever polititians they have bought to change the rules for them so they have a monopoly and don't have to perform. If there is one thing that marks the decline and fall of the general western economies its the collapse of competition and the ever reducing performance of the corporate sector.
