Just got a new monitor tonight.  21.5" LED Widescreen...  I thought LCD's were nice, changed my mind... The picture on this LED is beautiful, can't believe it!  Finally got rid of my 15" CRT I was using as my second monitor, and moved the 17" LCD to the left..  Now I don't think I need the second monitor but it will come in handy.

Hi Gunner,
Hope you don't mind me putting my 2 cents worth in here.
There is a little thing coming called AMOLED. They already have them in these little
phones. The 11" ones that are out are in the $2000 range.
A lot can be found out about this new technology by going to "Hardforums" and
looking for "Displays". Or going on "ask Jeeves" and typing in AMOLED.
Anyway it's a paper thin technology that gives better color, more pixels, and uses
less electric. They can also make lights out of this technology that can cover an
entire wall. It will be like the difference between the horse and buggy and a Rolls Royce.
I'm not explaining it to well so if you wish the above will give you places to learn more
about it.
From what I have been reading a decent sized TV will be out in about 3 years but
probably at an exorbitant price. Puter Monitors longer than that.
I'll be dead by that time. Darn, I so much wanted a 24" AMOLED monitor.

Yeah I heard of that technology a while back...  It is amazing the leaps and bounds display technology has come over the years!  Now if I can only disable the S-Video output on my card so Win7 stops thinking I have 3 monitors....

Congrats Gunner! Nothing like a big new monitor to put a bounce in your step.

Been using a nice ~21" Samsung Syncmaster 213T LCD (1600x1200) for many year now, gets kind of weird now sitting in front of a ~20" CRT (ex IBM Triniton's at 1600x1200 @ 75Hz) at how bent/curved the image is!? Plus the LCD doesn't weigh 66 pounds, or take up half the desk.

Currently working in front of an ~22" HP w2207 (1680x1050), bit cheap and glossy for my tastes, personally I'd go for DPI and resolution over diagonal size.

Why can't I get 1600x1200 for my netbook instead of the lame 1024x600 !?
It could be a random act of randomness. Those happen a lot as well.

With the price of VGA capable 30-40+" 1080p LCD TV's at WalMart these days the options for offensive hugeness is certainly tempting. Pixels as big a houses, and probably not safe to sit 12-18" away from.

The new one is a Samsung SyncMaster EX2220 LED, the other one I have next to it is a Viewsonic VG700b 17" LCD. I bought the LCD when I built my box years ago.  The LCD  looks "washed out" next to the LED monitor.  I seriously though about going out any getting another 21.5 samsung today.... but stopped myself  :bg  It was only 200 and change....  Eh, maybe when I build a new box I will get another one...  Coding is so much easier now!  Haven't watched porn on it yet :toothy :toothy

i use a sony 19" for the computer and we have a new 42" LG TV set - both are LCD
this computer has a TV tuner card and MCE so it can be set up as a media center
42" is really overkill for computer use - lol
but, that suggests that there may be some "optimal size" for computers
.... an interesting concept that manufacturers should be playing with

Rob - last time i was allowed to look at porn (lol), bigger was always better   :bg

I would suggest it's more of an interface than a usage issue.... Windows desktop is designed for monitor size screens.... Computer games such as Wii etc are designed for bigger screens.... I think it's more of a peripherals issue with a larger screen.... You are able to have more 'human' interactions on larger screens interacting with a keyboard is like paying for your pint with pennies

well - the larger size is nice for movies, of course
but i don't sit (nor do i want to) as close to watch movies as i do for "normal" computer use
i suspect the same may be said for games
my nephew plays x-box (or whatever the hell it is) on a TV that is about 40"
but, he sits on the sofa some 7 or 8 feet away
(certainly, resolution comes into play - i don't like fuzzy images)

it is hard to know what affect it has had on his brain, as he wasn't all that bright, to start with   :lol

C'mon, growing up I remember playing Centipede for ColecoVision (Maybe it was an Atari don't remember) on a 10" Black and White!  Now a days with the graphics of games I wouldn't do that... I would definitely go as big as I can for the room I am in....  (have to be able to sit far enough away)...... a friend has a 52" in his basement and his couch is about 5 feet away!  Way too uncomfortable to watch.....

Don't think I will buy LCD anymore (TV or Monitors)  If you can afford a LED TV, I would say get one.....  if you got extra money, get an LED monitor....  Much easier on the eyes......   made a small table (just made it bigger for the 2 monitors) and sit on the floor on comfy pillows, and sit about  30 inches away, so this new monitor is much easier to read....  I don't think there is a size limit for monitors....  it is what you are comfortable with... Your video card has a lot to do with it I think....  As newer OS's and vid cards come out , I think they will support larger and larger displays....

hutch--

I had a Samsung 21 inch CRT for years which was an excellent monitor but after about 5 years it started to lose its edge definition so when I built the first quad I bought a BenQ 24" HDMI monitor and liked it that much I bought an identical one for the Win7 64 i7.

Watch TV on the i7 and work on the Core2 quad.  :bg
