You know after years of having almost daily conversations with the people here and over at Win32asm, I have to admit that I only know what one or two look like. For example Bogdan who has a webcam shot as his avatar and NaN. Well, for those who wish to participate, I thought it would be cool to see what everyone looked like. I am even going to post a webcam shot of myself, an exceedingly rare event as I am pretty much of a very private person. I just took this one on my way to work, you can see the new box behind my shoulder...

I totally agree with you, donkey. As anyone could see, I am still a youngster compared with most on the board. The following photo was taking with my sister's camera phone and the dog is my uncle's sheltie by the name of Prince

...I am walking to 30's... and my hair have two longs (entrances ?).but I grow happy learning :bg
Actually that's a pretty good haircut Mario, I still do some military time so I have to practically shave mine off every few months, no time to grow sideburns or even a mustache. Always wanted sideburns but it just doesn't fit the weekend warrior image and anyway I have trouble even getting stubble to show on my face, used to say that the men in my family had better things to spend their testosterone on :toothy

Hi Manos, I'm 43. Says it somewhere in my profile I think. Though my friends say that I aged 10 years in the last 8 months because of some personal things. PS no pic ???
Donkey,
Time is the fire in which we all burn and it is kind to the very few. My wife thinks you look very distinguished and she really likes the name, Edgar. Time to change the locks on the door ( so they lock in instead of out!

Hi Rags,
I think the Catskills are very beautiful, also. Upstate New York is a beautiful place.
Paul
Paul,
If you live within a reasonable drive from Hew Hampshire, try taking the drive up Mt. Washington. The views from the top make the trip worthwhile.
Rags
Rags,
I would and I have, but my second wife's first husband lives in Littleton, NH which is right at the base so we tend to avoid the area. We actually have a fairly good relationship (I tend to keep him posted), but my wife still has unnatural thoughts about what she hopes happens to that poor guy. :bdg
BTW: In Vermont, I used to camp in Allard State Park, another beautiful place and the location of the only floating bridge in the country (outside of military installations, that is).
In New York, Lake George or maybe Athol is the place to be! I made some Camera Club trips to Athol in my youth and enjoyed it immensely.
Paul
I think I'm a little bit younger than most of y'all. I always pictured Donkey as having a somewhat elongated, donkey-like face, and pbrennick as looking somewhat like the joker guy in his avatar. Weird how avatars influence the way you picture people.

Later at that morning the cops drove me home...
I just couldn't find a different picture of me ::)
:bg
Thomas,
I cannot help you with a photo, I have not had one taken for many years and I broke the webcam I had getting the desktop picture I posted. I have a great photo my mum took in about 1950 but to be honest, I am taller now than then. :green2 I am about 1.9 metres tall and weigh in at about 87 kilos and manage to be reasonably fit for 56 years of age.
Look at it on the bright side, your monitor will not blow up if I don't post a photo.
Here's me, handsome devil eh?
I finally convinced myself to try and use that Christmas gift web cam. It certainly is not a high quality camera! I'm sitting in my birthday gift comfortable high chair in front of my computer.
I have mentioned elsewhere that I am not a youngster anymore. I've now been retired for 17+ years (following 30+ years of service with the same company) and have enjoyed almost every minute of it. Presently, we already have 10 grandchildren, some even older than several members of this forum. Maybe I should change my signature to "grandpa"!! :lol :lol
(http://www.ray.masmcode.com/figs/MyPic.jpg)
P.S. Maybe Hutch won't be as reluctant now to provide all of us with his looks.
:bg
Ray,
Age just translates to experience and seniority so if you tried the "grandpa" title, you would have many other members complaining about your attempt to exceed their age and seniority. :green
I tried to find a photo a neighbor up the road took a couple of years ago while I was working at the front of the house cutting some stone blocks but I just can't find it.
Hi Raymond, I can only hope to look so good when I retire, but I suspect that I will never be able to and I will certainly not have a full head of hair if I do. :)
As a side note, I am extremely pleased with this thread. I am generally a pretty private person and was a bit reticent to post my pic, so I understand why some don't. But I have to admit that I am surprised at the number of people who have, it adds a more personal touch to the board and I'm glad I started it.

Every computer hardware company has their own assembler language. I learned LOTS of them in the Sixties and Seventies. I remember the Tempo computer where you had to enter a short boot program in hex on buttons of the computer console. Okay, got my picture into a ZIP file. I was a young guy when I started programming, but something happened and I morphed into an old guy...

Hi Scott,
You can't directly post a pic on the forum however you can display a JPG (or other format) that is stored elsewhere using the IMG tags with the URL between them...
[IMG]http://www.members.shaw.ca/contact_donkey/files/Donkey.jpg[/IMG]
(There will be probably some restrictions on the images, like maximal size or dimensions - I can't post one. I've read forum rules, but found nothing :( Please help, moderators)
For the "where can I store my image" question I've got a solution.
If you haven't got own webspace where you can save your image just try ImageShack (http://imageshack.us/).
A FAQ is available here (http://www.imageshack.us/faq.php).
Nice to see so much different people from so much different locations and of so much different ages.
Last but not least I was very surprised that there are so many oldschoolers which are nearly three times older than me. I hope you guys will stay in a healthy and good condition for many years to come. I like this place as it gives me a quite familiar feeling.

There are many advantages, you can instantly dial up the level of senile decay you need and they beleive you, you can dress any way you like and no-one cares and Policemen call you SIR. :P You generally have forgotten more than most of the younger generation know and with dial up senility, you can forget what you like.

Getting old isn't to bad Hutch, but I hear the ending is kinda sad for friends and family. I do enjoy myself, just at a much slower pace. My mind is still 20, but my body wont go along with the program. I have learned to enjoy FINE beer, and good wine in moderation. I do from time to time get "Brain farts", and forget what I got up to get from another room. I have always prided myself on my mental ability, and an almost "Photographic" memory, but as you age, you don't worry much about social mores. its a day by day thing, and I never worry about dieing, that will come in its own good time. I do miss being able to code in all nighters like in the 20's, but all things pass. One thing I regret is that I may never see REAL robots that actully think.

QuoteOne thing I regret is that I may never see REAL robots that actully think.
Hi anunitu,
Robots able to think like humans is a dream for today. Me too, I would like to see them but the problem is that how you can construct the free will power in a machine? A second question here is rasing here, the description of intelligence by Alan Turing ( I hope I am correct ) is that it cannot be predictable. How to create a system with unpredictable acts? How would you define good and wrong acts for a computer?

It's a small company. 108 people, 80 of which are technical. So I wear a lot of different hats. One of the things I am working on currently is optimizing their CPU simulator to run faster. They have millions of test cases that they run on it, and they run it every night against every CPU they have. So even making it 20% faster will improve the process.

After having just spent the last week painting the panels in the terrace house balcony that I have just finished building, I am now decorated in British Standard 391c decore but to be honest, it looks a lot better on the balcony than on me.

That woman is way too cute for you.
BTW, if anyone wants to see a bad soccer/football movie, "The Game of Their Lives" opens tomorrow (Friday) in 13 cities in the US. Gerard Butler, that blonde kid from "Home Improvement", Rhys-Davies, Jason Patrik and a host of others are in it including...ME! (and my son).
Apparently, I'm most obvious in a scene at the park where Butler and the blonde kid, are talking and I'm directly behind them in the stands wearing sunglasses.
The t-shirt I have that says "There is no place like 127.0.0.1" confuses people more.
DrHoward: Ill keep and eye out for the movie and thanks for the comments on the wife :)

Hi Phil,
Nice pic, were you a vet from Vietnam ?
Yep. Spent about 11 months at an Autodin facility with the U.S. Army Signal Corp in a place called Phu Lam near Saigon. Also spent about 10 months in training at Ft. Monmoth, N.J. and a couple of months in basic. Figured they would have made an infantry man out of me but, instead they handed me a coffee cup and a huge stack of manuals! Two years was enough for me and I came back to the states and went to work for Digital Equipment Corporation in their Dayton, Ohio field office. A few years later I had made it to lovely Massachusetts to work in their Ed Services department teaching the hardware for awhile and then moving up to their large computer group, actually a 36-bit mini by todays standards, where I started doing systems programming and Macro-10/20 assembly. Didn't much care for the Army but I did love those 12-hour shifts with 3-day weekends and those bottomless cups and cups of coffee!
This is about three years old.

Rags and pbrenneck... are either of you ADK46er's? My wife and I have been working on that the past few years. We've been up four times and have 19 peaks so far.
Merrick,
Because I have to wear braces and use fore-arm crutches to go into the next room, mountain climbing is sort of out of the question. When I was a teenager, I took part in the annual race to the top of Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire, USA. I suppose that does not count, though. Back then, I was a fitness freak.
Quote
"Besides being the most popular mountain in America, Grand Monadnock is known as the most climbed mountain in the world. Monadnock has long been described as the second-most-climbed mountain in the world (after Mt. Fuji in Japan). Since 1990, it has been suggested that so many of Fuji's climbers have shifted to newly available public transportation for that ascent, that Monadnock's annual total of foot traffic now exceeds Fuji's. Now in southwestern New Hampshire, 125,000 people every year hike to the top of Monadnock.
...
Many types of people are attracted to Grand Monadnock. We've seen fitness hikers speeding up the trails, small children on their fathers' backs, old-timers with walking sticks, experts with cameras and notebooks, young sauntering couples, and energetic school kids."
The mountain has easy trails and hard trails depending upon your skill level. There is one face of the mountain that most users are not allowed to climb as you cannot do it without equipment. Try racing up a mountain, it requires a lot of training as the climb gets progressively harder as you go but the amount of available oxygen decreases (when you need it most) the higher you go. The runner's high kicks in about halfway which is another danger.
But it is fun.

Bill,
You can do our advertising any old time. Bike looks great. :U
Steve,
Took that photo yesterday with my old Fuji SLR off a tripod. I set the timer for 10 seconds grabbed the Masm32 Rocks printout and set down on the bike. Picture came out pretty good. I had just got back from a fifty mile ride around the country side. I'm looking forward to a long ride up to the family camp for a weekend deep in the Allegheny Mountains. Its late spring here in PA and everything is green and fresh, love this time of year!!
nice to see you cycle saddles
currently I am broadcasting MASM around the area :bdg
Bill,
If you take your camera with you on the long ride into the Allegheny Mountains see if you can get some decent photos. My mum years ago brought back some photoes from the Blue Ridge mountains and they were great stuff. Mike (rags) posted a photo from his back yard a couple of years ago that showed a mountain ridge on the horizon and its interesting torrain in PA. We have nothing like it here as OZ is a very old continent where the US is still active and new in comparison.
Here are some photos to look at Steve. I put these photos on my site so family could view them. These were taken at various places in the PA mountains. The photo of the Allegheny River is a shot of the small village called Sibertown where I once lived. The photo of the deep gorge is called the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Other photos are of the family camp with my two sisters. There's a photo of the Emlenton Bridge off I80 with an old shack that my mother and her sisters grew up in. The photo of the Kinzua Railroad Trestle gives you an idea of the damage a tornado can cause. There's also a link at the bottom of the photo page that links to a bunch of picturers I took last year when a group of us road our bikes down to Gettysburg last summer for a weekend stay.
http://www.quickersoft.com/bikeride.html
Thanks for the link Bill, there is some good looking country in those. The gorge with the stream is world class scenery. One question, what happened to the railway bridge that is broken in the middle, did it fail or was it done to stop people from using it ?
If I ever get to travel, it will be for the scenery, I used to take a lot of photos down the south coast of NSW, about 400k south of where I live but sad to say they were mainly film before I bought a digital camera and I don't think that many survived that long.
Just west of Sydney is the great dividing range that was not crossed until 1813 due to the sheer escapement that faces most of the east side. As a true confession back in the days when I rode bikes I remember riding the Bell Road which is above a pass up the escapement just north of Sydney at about 180k through a set of sweeps about 20 miles long. These days they would put you in jail if they caught you riding that fast. :bg
Interestingly enough it was not done on a big biike, it was done on a 350 Yamaha I owned that was set up like a TZ350 complee with a full fairing and expansion chambers.
I once owned a 1974 350 Yamaha Eudora, loved that bike. I use to hill climb near vertical strip-cuts with it. Them old 350's had lots of power.
The old Kinzua Railroad Trestle was ripped apart by a tornado classified as an F-1 on July 21, 2003. It's a great state park to visit if you ever visit PA. I hung out over the edge to get some of those photos of the bridge, gave me the eby geebys. :dazzled:
See if you can pull up the link below Steve. There's a complete story about this historic Pennsylvania Bridge with some before and after pictures.
http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/info/kinzuabridgereport/body/001.html
We are fortunate that tornados don't seem to hit populated areas at all in OZ. We do have what are called willie willies which work the same way but they are mainly seen in desert areas along the great Australian bite area which is barely populated and they generally pick up dust, not houses and trees and similar to what I see in the US.
Tressle bridges like you have in the states are uncommon here but its mainly due to very different torrain. The old bridge looked very impressive and it is unfortunate that it was destroyed by a tornado but I guess they must be in very good condition to actually survive wind forces of that magnitude. The older bridges that still survive here are generally a "Bailey Truss" design and while most of them have been replaced with modern steel re-enforced concrete there are a few of the very old ones left but they are not usually elevated bridges like the one in the park and they are rarely ever subject to high wind forces.
When my mum was still alive she did a trip up the panhandle to Alaska and on the way went for a train ride into the Canadian border and on the way up she shot video of this massive old wooden truss bridge that was used back in the early mining days. I doubt it was structurally sound at that age but it was still standing and it was an engineering masterpiece for its time.

Hutch,
Coding is my life, has been and always will be, no worries there. Sghe is well aware of where she fits into the scheme of things.
About the beard, it was her idea, she calls it her toy. The ponytail, which you can't see, was her idea, also.
The clown, or jester, was something I picked a long time ago because I always had a reputation as being too serious. I, also, pay a lot of attention to avatars and have always wondered why people pick what they pick. You, Sinsi, with a handle like that remind me of a karate instructor even if the 'e' is missing. Doesn't really go with the dog image. Mine is obviopus as well as Hutch but some of you other guys should come clean and tell us what you were thinking. Cycle Saddles? I'cve heard of cycle saddlebags, but.... drhowarddrfine, from tv as I recall, FORTRANS? Why the 'S' and Vortex, don't know how such a pleasant, calm friend would pick that one. I could go on but it's almost 2:30am and Carol just woke up... sorry, gotta go. :U
-- Paul
QuoteCycle Saddles?
Paul, I know, kind of silly I guess. I've been a motorcyclist most of my life and the seat of a cycle is referred to as a saddle by us old time bikers. One of the numerous ways I make money is to recover motorcycle seats and to make new seats for a custom chopper builder. Years ago here on Steve's site I used the handle bcraven an abbreviation of my name Bill Cravener and my avatar was a pair of blinking eyes.
Regards to you and your wife to be!
Paul
My frog avatar is a rare and endangered species from the highlands of New South Wales and Victoria in Australia, called a corroboree frog. It is a symbol of a bushwalking club which I have been an active member and leader for the past 22 years. Bushwalking is the Australian term for walking, mostly off-track for us, through national parks. It is hugely strenuous but rewarding. Most other people think I must be crazy.
Regards
Chris
I don't use the "3 Stooges" avatar on this forum but it was picked purely at random many years ago when I was signing up for some sites years ago and couldn't find a nick that wasn't used. I watched those shows as a kid and didn't think many younger people would know of them today.
Originally, I used the full 'drhowarddrfinedrhoward' but this board, I think, changed software and it got truncated by a few letters, so I had hutch change it to what it is now.
Other than all that, it doesn't reflect anything about me.

You are all very fine people and I feel I know you all a little better now. Bill Cravener? Now, that one surprised me. Many times, I wondered where you went. I am probably the only idiot on this board who did not know that. I knew there was a reason why I liked you! You used to post more code in the olden days though.
Over here, we were told you guys took 'walk abouts.' Did I say that correctly? Here in America, we are raising generation after generation of kids who do nothing but sit in front of the boob tube. It saddens me. Just as a point of interest, before I became crippled I used to do something called 'wolf trotting.' I learned how from an old Passamaquoddy Indian. You run for a bit and then walk for a bit, etc. Using this method, I would do 15 miles a day and not even feel winded.
Is a walkabout a rite of passage? Somehow, somewhere, I got that impression.

I dont have uploaded a custom animated one, made to fit in the masmtheme, but I cant have such a big flashy avatar in a technical forum
in the background I have created a 3d masmbox with realistic masmbox front pic, in front of it lies a open book, that is suppose to be A&A but I failed to get texture right with lots screenshot from A&A text so it is instead grey, the letters MASM OOP falls down on the book and start to randomly bounce around controlled by a physics emulation
it reflects my coding and Cg is two interests that goes into each other, most coding is some Cg snippet or new ways to make it go faster like parallel SSE code

That sounds pretty cool. If you do not want to use it as an avatar, you could probably use it in a credit box of one of your programs. You could probably make 'masm oop' morph into your name. If you are unsure how to animate a picture in a credit box, look at the attached program. Instead of using an animated gif, it uses a series of bitmaps. Can't remember who did it, though.

Oh hell Paul don't worry about it, I don't care one iota honestly! :bg
Bill,
As a matter of course, while browsing, if I encounter something that looks interesting to me or may be useful to others, I download it and store it in my archives (which have become huge). Then, if I see someone needs something, I just attach it. I never claim credit for it and if I forget to write in the author's name which has happened a lot as I may not even explore it for months, if at all, I do not know who to credit and it may not bother you but it does me.
I should do a better job of archiving, I know, but I always seem so busy. BTW, that IS a very cool program.

By the look of the hilt it would appear to be a bastard sword, they were heavily used by the British in the late 13th century, the blade is too narrow for a broad sword.
Donkey is correct :bg

Do you practice fighting with that sword, kromag?
I once had the chance to join some training sessions for longsword fighting in the german style of Liechtenauer from 14th century. That is a complete combat system including fighting with different weapons, kick and punch techniques and wrestling, not a bit less complex than any asian martial art.
I have taken arts in the past which none allowed the use of swords and such; albeit, I have done some training on my own in the past for a few years with swords, and with nunchaku.
I usually prefer to take a blind leap at such things so I am not constrained nor tainted by outside influence and enjoy figuring things out :bg

The Germans did make a nice longsword, they are essentially the same as a bastard sword but are "hand and a half" with a slightly shorter hilt because of it, I still think the pinnacle of European sword design was the German Rapier, light, one handed and deadly on the thrust but at the same time a beautiful piece of art, even the small sword which came later and is the dress sword of the US Marines doesn't hold a candle to it.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the compliment.
The hair was almost 1 year old and not styled... just a normal wash and it gets like that. Almost every woman likes it like that and they say that it is unfair for a man to have such a hair. Funny my child does not like it but still wishes that she had it :)) .
Anyway I've just cut is very short 2 days ago :toothy ... But it will grow again... hopefully? :toothy :D
After all we all know that it is the hair and not the neuronal network below that does matter after all ... :8)
Bog,

You say the funniest things but as a matter of fact, even though it should NOT be the reality, there it is and there it will always be.
Take care.
Paul

Reminds me of the Facebook enigma. My family loves it and they post facts about the family and countless photos (some of me with out my permission) and yet not one of them has ever read Facebooks terms of use. On Facebook if you post something it belongs to them.
It's been some four years since I first posted my mug here on the board. Even at 61 (come this May) I'm still big, bad and good lookin. :bg

Well I think we can all agree (at least those of us brave enough to show our face) are all handsome manly looking men. :bg

Found one from last summer with a goatee :) It's about as close as I'll ever get to having a beard, long hair just isn't going to happen.

Yup. Think we left the camera in the van after we were rear ended last year. Just got a new one before his birthday.
I don't know that I have any of me recently, but I'll post some of the kids.
Me and paul taking a nap.

Sam 12, Madalyn 5, and Paul 3. At the time they were 10, 3, 1. I was in a coma in the hospital so got to see these when I woke up.

Got my pic back up there using Dave's little name change attachment trick.Goes like this. Link rot will get you if you don't watch out.
Really a png file rather than a Zip. then copy the address from site into the IMG function.
It does work, and no link rot.

Oh yeah, you sneer and laugh but it wouldn't seem so funny if The Tick hadn't protected the earth from El Seed and kept us all from being slaves to the vegetables. Easy to mock The Tick but try spending your life as a brocolli fluffer and you'll be begging him to save you.
SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NPNW, :U. Also good to see you regained your beard.
>brocolli fluffer
Do broccoli get erections? Yuk.
John,
Good to see you back up and running and I am still impressed with your contribution to the number of good looking blondes in the world. :U
anunitu and John..
great pics, guys :U
glad to see you looking well, John
I am not certain but,I may be the oldest one on here..Sound off if you are 65 or older..If you are younger, then get off my lawn wippersnappers....
Well Hutch,
Two ugly parents make good looking kids. The kids hair is all getting darker... winter. They need some time in OZ during the winter. I was the same way. Paul looks exactly like me, and Madalyn is pretty close by old pictures of me at 5.
Watch out Hutch, Sam the 12 year old is interested in programming Assembler. I'm not sure I want him addicted quite yet, so I'm holding off just yet.
On the good news side, just passed my petscan and still cancer free. Had sleep apnea this last year, got that figured out finally.
I'm starting to work on some cooking software in Java due to its support of Android.
Things are good, I've missed writing software.
Sinsi,
The beard is kinda thin after the cancer. I used to get a FULL Beard in the winter, let my hair grow... below the ears to keep em warm.
Now, I'll take what I get. This winter hasn't been so bad. Iowa has had one of the warmest winters on record. I've spent most of my time inside this year.
Good news no bronchitus, pnuemonia. Had ear surgery along with the cancer, have tubes to help it drain, that is keepin me from getting sick.
John
This is me from years ago, but I still look the same. I am the guy on the right.
Gunner,
I like the idea of going from Automatic Weapons to Assembly Programming.
Yeah, I was a Machine Gunner in the Marines so my tools were the M2 .50 cal, MK19 40MM grenade launcher and the M60 (the one Rambo used). Interesting step from that to Assembly :bg
I'm not military, but lots of family in the military.
My favorite weapon is the M1. For an old girl, she does the job.
This snowman is me :toothy

It is a bad sign to allow to make and publish photos till sleeping.
You are fix a sleep state to self - it is synonym of death.
