Caan't use my old MASM

Hi.

I've just replaced my ancient PC with a new all-singing, all-dancing Pentium Core2 Duo system complete with Windows Vista, mainly due to pressure from my boy who wants to play insane games.

My old PC was quite happy running the admittedly dated Microsoft MASM 6.11, but not surprisingly, my new system won't even look at it.

Is there a version of MASM that would be compatible with my Windows Vista system?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

You can get the latest release of the Masm32 package, it contains ml.exe V6.14 : MASM32 Version 10 BETA

Hi scully,

Welcome on board. I run win2000 and the old masm 6.11 runs but not well, the PWB is very sluggish on NT based systems which follows from its 16 bit virtual machine not being able to control the video and all of memory.

Could we tempt you into 32 bit masm, its heaps faster, has more instructions and instead of the limited range of DOS interrupts it has over 12 thousand system function you can use ?

If you absolutely have to use MASM 6.11 ( is it only 16 bit or is there also 32 bit support/version ?)
Some combination of Virtual Machine/CPU emulator and guest OS and maybe some addins, will work.

What OS was used on the ancient PC ?

Vista Ultimate has some virtual machine bundled with it.
There are many virtual machine/CPU emulator programs available
VirtualBox,Virtual PC,VMWare (last two have many versions).

DosBox, Bochs (Bochs is a CPU + system emulator)

They vary greatly in support of OSes, virtual CPUs, speed, price.
