Emails from "The MASM Forum"

I have been receiving numerous annoying e-mails from "The MASM Forum" tempting me to check out various cool websites. Anybody else getting these?

It seems as if the Forum fell victim to some spambot.

Make sure that the mail really comes from this host (what i don't think) since it is really easy to spoof the text in the mail header.
You should rely on the IPs in the header information.
I don't have my email address set to public and did not receive any mail.

The spambot uses this forum to spam. Besides posting on the forum it also sends messages using private message function.
Too bad there's nobody who can remove his account.

Yeah, I just got four private messages from Daniel Craig that were spam. No email though.

My emails contained somewhat disturbing pictures. Anyone else have this.. :(

I received four emails from 'Daniel Craig' of this forum just now.  Most of them appear to be links to pornogrphy sites.  Didn't think to check the entire header to see their origin, will do that and post here if I get any more.

Really wish that these idiots who have nothing better to do than disrupt everyone's online experience could be caught and prosecuted but it's pretty much a lost cause I guess.

My email address is hidden but I got emailed.

Too many hacks and other crap happens here. How do I delete my account? If I can't then I request it be removed by administrators. Thanks.

got 4 pm's from him too... one about bill gates having a heart attack etc.. typical mindless spam... one day the spambots
will learn peoples interests and email accordingly, until then i just click delete on ones with silly headers :)

Problem should be solved, the member list is no longer available. It will not stop bots from trawling the postings but it makes it far harder to target all of the members.

Thanks Hutch for working on this difficult problem.  Making the memberlist unavailable should slow down the idiots.


Dare2,  I do not think this is a problem that should cause anyone to leave the forum.  The forum is NOT the problem and we are just as vulnerable as any other site.  Having said that, it upset me just as much as it upset you so I know how you feel.  Hang in there.  This is the one time I can remember of this ever happening, a good record by all accounts.

Just to point out that your email address wasn't revealed.
The email you received was from the masm-forum, not the spammer. All the spammer did was make use of forum's private message function. If you received an email, this was a notfication from the forum that you'd received a private message - there is an option to enable/disable this.
