Problem: making OpenGL use 3D hardware

Would anybody happen to know how to get OpenGL to make use of 3D hardware?  In case it's of some use, I'll note that I'm using a 300MHz (Pentium II) Celeron with Windows 98, and my 3D accelerator is a 12MB 3D Blaster Voodoo2 from Creative Labs.  Creative Labs also has no driver updates or anything else for this card.  I know that OpenGL is not using 3D hardware because the simple OpenGL-based Microsoft screen savers (e.g. 3D Maze and 3D Text) have tremendously jerky animation even on 800x600 resolution, but a beta version of Monster Truck Madness 2, which uses Direct3D, still runs perfectly smoothly on 640x480 resolution and with every option on, including reflections, and with all other options set to their top limits.  Supposedly my installation CD installed Direct3D, Glide, and QuakeGL drivers.  I assume the Glide drivers correspond with OpenGL.  Is that so?  Is there something I can tweak to fix this?

Here are 2 links you might find interesting and allthough they are Borland DELPHI related you will find the example code quite readable.

Lots of hardware info van be found at: http://www.delphi3d.net/

This site has a lot extensive but easy examples: http://www.sulaco.co.za/

Should you need help with understanding DELPHI-code, just ask, I'm a  DELPHI-programmer...
