Have you ever watched the modem blinking when you are shutting
down your computer? WHY? I know, I'm paranoid. I yank the modem
wire when shutting down now. That and Gmail and the upcoming privacy
policy. Evidently, they are collecting everything about everybody for God
knows what reason. In other words you have NO privacy no matter what you
do. So use an old computer for any personal stuff NOT connected the the internet.
That is security. Not that I have anything to hide but shades of the 1984
science fiction novel.

You could close your google service accounts (Youtube, Gmail, Google+) and avoid using google search engine.
Although most of the information is used for advertising purposes, they do keep information which could be misused at some point.

Oh my! They're coming to get you shankle. Best keep your doors locked. I'd bet it's the FBI or maybe the CIA, we all know how important it is to keep track of your surfing habits. Better quit visiting those porn sites buddy.

Or tearing down the PPPoE context.

Put an old hub in there and probe the traffic with WireShark or something.

Then again the NSA/GCHQ is watching you from the fiber tee anyway, or the geeks at the ISP are watching your DNS requests.
It could be a random act of randomness. Those happen a lot as well.

And Google (amongst other ad-pushers) have gremlins on pretty much every site, collecting the trail left by your browsing habits..

I read a nice book recently called 'Sillicon Jungle'.  It's fiction, but an interesting read. If you're a google fan, this is for you.
