Wow, today i've been a member for six years... so here's a quick shout out to all the crusty old-timers who taught me how to be a better programmer, the mods that keep the forum (relatively) nonsense free, and the other members always thinking up new and exciting code.

I echo that :U

(Dave, Hutch: have you noticed how precisely he addresses his target group, i.e. us "crusty old-timers", by choosing a sexy thread title? :green2)

Thanks, redskull, for reminding me how old we all are. I'm more of a fossil, though,...

You guys worry me, we are supposed to be setting these young fellas a good example and all I hear is whinging (whining in American parlance) about old age. Think of all the advantages, policemen call you "Sir" (at least some of the time), you can claim you are senile at 50 and over and they believe you. This in turn allows you to claim that you don't remember ever making a mistake and as the years mount up you convert the number to degrees in the shade.

If you develop a taste in blondes you won't be disappointed as you get into your 60s (silver blondes), you can be irresponsible and its seen as normal and you can aspire to be a cantankerous old bastard and usually get away with it (at least if you are careful).

Now instead of worry about the onslaught of old age, embrace it for its advantages, old age becomes "experience", grey haired ladies become silver blondes and nobody has any great expectations for you (except perhaps a silver blonde).  :P

The greatest crime in my country is our Congress

Clearly, my biggest problem with 'advanced age/dementia' is that I can't remember my standard lies anymore,...and, deliver them dramatically and convincingly. It's not a whine, really,...it's the danger factor. My friends,...the few that I still have left,...won't associate with me because I don't have the 'right stuff' anymore,... And, naturally, they don't want to get arrested for aiding and abetting,...or, unwittingly being an accessory. It's embarrassing.

The trick is you never accept someone else's sales pitch, the world at large will try and tell you that you are past it, losing your marbles and that you should be passing your resources to THEM to piss against the wall for you. Now if you are silly enough to believe them you deserve what you get but as long as your senile decay is still purely voluntary you can capitalise on your advantages and light a fire under their arse until they give up on the idea.  :bdg

Yeah, I know what you mean. By the time you get to be old (and, presumably, wiser) you've heard so much bullshit, you really don't even pay attention anymore.
I don't think I've heard an interesting comment from anyone for years,...except, maybe, on this forum.
