Why do you think that Opera > FF ?

PBrennick

Vortex,
Well, for one thing, Opera does not bundle the Google toolbar and force you to use it. That is pretty heavy-handed of FireFox, if you ask me and is the reason I use k-meleon, instead.

Hi Paul,

OK, I understand it. I never tried Opera, this is why I asked the question.

Firefox does not bundle the Google Toolbar.  Nor are you required to use it.  Why do you think that?  You have to get it from Google to use it.

hutch--

New version looks fine to me, installed over the earlier 1.6, everything worked fine and it seems to be a little faster. I always get Firefox from Mozilla.org.

Ok, new version looks good except they removed the single x for closing out tabs from right side and put an x in each tab.  Anyone know how to get the single x back?  Moving the mouse to a fixed position is much easier than searching, and the x takes up space in the tab header that could be used to show what the tab is.

You can't but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a way in the config since FF is so customizable.  It was moved there because people consider the 'x' in the tab to be more convenient so, to each his own.

PBrennick

Okay, maybe I am missing something but this sure looks like an included Google toolbar

Even though it is definitely there, it does not show in the Add/Remove programs which means it is branded into FireFox.

Is there another version? I clicked the link that said 'Get the latest version'

It looks like you might have the Google toolbar installed on that but Firefox does not come with it.  I don't know how to uninstall that except maybe it's in uninstall in the control panel.  You might consider just uninstalling all of FF and download 2.0 from Mozilla.

Tedd

Google Toolbar is (or at least was) packaged in with the installer for Firefox. However, you do have the option of not installing it.
I'd go with uninstalling the whole lot, then get the latest version, and be careful what you click when you install :wink (Don't forget to backup your bookmarks, etc :lol)

Not to make a big ol' argument about it but I've been running FF since v.1.0 and never had the Google toolbar and was never asked if I wanted it, so....

I use the middle mouse button to click on and close tabs, it's also handy to open links/bookmarks in a new tab etc.  :U
