Multithreading gone mad

Interesting, a newish game I bought really doesn't like Windows (it was originally xbox)
- cpu usage is always 25% or more (on a quad core)
- 43 threads, and most of them are not blocked
- uses almost all of its 2 gig of ram
- seems to take so many system resources that my wireless switches off then on then off then...you get it
- multiplayer internet is a joke, because of the above during a race

I know they push multithreading a lot, but 43? Even svchost is 'only' using 42...

Would help if you supplied a name. :U

my nephew plays World of Warcraft
i can hear the hard drive spinning continuously when it runs - even when completely idle
crappy programming, if you ask me

they don't need 64 bits - they need to learn how to write code   :P

Well, they may not be the best, but they are just trying to meet the corporate demand. :lol

Well the poor old Q6600 gave up the ghost so I am running AMD now, a six core beastie (Phenom II X6 1100T) with 8 gig of ddr3 ram.
Guess what, the same game does the same thing. CPU usage is down to 18% (100/6 versus 100/4) but even setting priority to 'low'
the wireless drops out, task manager gets the old 'not responding' message...WTF?

The only way to get around it is to set affinity to ONE CORE. Sheesh.
I am so pissed off that I will name the game: Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box.

Ah, I feel better now that I have vented  :bdg

edit: running the game with affinity set to one core and priority low is no different to the FPS rate when it is all cores and normal priority.
Nice programming guys! ::)

So a game with a name that starts with Burnout killed your system?
eschew obfuscation

But now I am in Paradise. A forced upgrade can sometimes be good, since now I have DDR3, SATA3 and USB3, all the threes  :U

sinsi,

Sounds like a nice toy. Did the old quad clap out or was it just not fast enough ?

Board or CPU stopped working (with no RAM or graphics card it wouldn't even beep) so rather than track it
down to one or the other I decided to get new stuff (CPU, board and RAM).

Next will be to get a couple of SATA3 drives and stripe them, a 1TB drive at the moment is $45.

hutch--

Where do you get a SATA3 1tb drive from for that money ?
