Hi All,
I've just posted the first two chapters of a new Win32 Asm programming tutorial I'm creating.
You can find the tutorials here:
http://homepage.mac.com/randyhyde/webster.cs.ucr.edu/Win32Asm/index.html

These first two installments cover the basics of HOWL (HLA Object Windows Library) programming and creating button objects on a form. I'll try to get additional installments up as soon as I can write them.

Enjoy!

Cheers,
Randy Hyde

Naw, that's a bit old for me. I was in fifth grade in 1968 :-)

Now I REALLY feel old Randy.  If I can recall correctly, in 1968 - while you were in 5th grade - I had been in the USAF x2 years, was stationed at Hickam AFB in Honolulu making $100 a month and getting ready to transfer back to the mainland at the end of that tour.  A year later we had our first child.

ARRGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm depressed ...   :wink

that's about the time my older brother went in the navy, too
he eventually wound up in Honolulu, as well
as a mars and crypto operator at Pearl

All kidding aside, Randy, just scanned through your new tutorials and all I can say is

WOW!!!!!   :cheekygreen: :cheekygreen: :cheekygreen:

I already love HLA, this is just icing on the cake ... and is right in line with what I'm trying to do right now so your timing couldn't be better.

Maybe you'd be willing to give up sleeping so you can finish the rest of the chapters ... ???   :bg

Thank you SO much for this ... even at my advanced age and after 44+ years in the computer business I still have so much to learn.

Best,

Tom

Rub it in, youngster ... rub it in ...  :toothy

dedndave

lol - i was only about 5 years behind
i was a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne - 73 to 75

So you were jumping out of perfectly good airplanes for "fun" while I was finishing my BS in Mathematics (compliments of the USAF) and then going through OTS.  I had almost 8 years' enlisted time then went bootstrap (not sure what the Army calls it???) and spent the remainder of my 22 year career as a commissioned officer.

Small world.

dedndave

well - if i had it to do again, commissioned is the way to go
but - i didn't care much for the US military
i am too bull-headed and independant for that kind of thing
i did my time and got out - lol
it helped me pay for college and helped me buy my first house

EDIT - i should add, there were a couple things i actually enjoyed
jumping was great ! - although, jump school was not exactly a barrell of laughs - lol

OOOOhhhh he did indeed  :lol
Thanks a lot Randy.
Mind is like a parachute. You know what to do in order to use it :-)

Chapter Seven is going to have to wait for the release of HLA v2.10. That chapter needs a couple of features I just added to the HOWL library, necessitating an update to the HLA release.

Coming soon!

Cheers,
Randy Hyde

P.S., I lost a lot of sleep this weekend, but that was because I was doing a couple of shows, not because I was working on the tutorial. :-(
