setty,

make sure you windows version is installed properly and the machine is clean, IE no viruses or trojans.

When you install, try not to run other stuff at the same time and turn and AV scanner OFF !!!.

the install has been tested on all versions and on thousands of computers and it works fine.

setty,
I do not know how much knowledge you have about your machine at the system level, but your machine has a serious problem.  If you do not know how to install an OS, take it to a service center in your area.  The machine needs to be rebuilt.  To ensure that no bad stuff makes it into the new installation, I believe FDISK needs to be used here.  Do NOT play with that program unless you know what you are doing.  Goo luck.

I'm not so sure he's got a corrupted filesystem as that he's just got a bad download. Sure he should check his system with chkdsk to be sure (and chkdsk c: /f will fix many problems such as lost chains and clusters without having to fdisk/format/install OS your hard drive).

I think he meant that the unarchiving app he was using displayed this... maybe not. Assuming his hard drive isn't corrupted beyond repair, then I'd delete all downloaded archives pertaining to MASM and get the current version from the masmforum website. It's a soft install and so doesn't impact your system much beyond filling up the c:\masm32 folder with goodies.

I've exactly the same problem as Setty. Everything works fine with download and extraction of install.exe. Even running install.exe works well, but after extraction a window pops up showing files that are broken. After installment every file in the masm32-catalog is 0k size. I'm using Windows 98 SE swedish version with a 98lite-modification, no internet explorer is installed. I think the problem lies in the 7zip-extractor.

EDIT: I'm using the Win95-shell for faster perfomance. Noted that Setty uses Win95.

I have a win98se box running the win95b interface as well and it has no problems at all. If you have something wrong with the machine, go to the forum website and get the version there that is preinstalled. Make SUER you put it into a directory "masm32" directly off the root dorectory of the partition you want it on. It is there for people who have broken or damaged Windows versions.

I tried 98lite on my test box and it severely corrupted my installation to the point that I had to reformat.  It was a bad experience that I will never try again.  It happens when you try to remove Explorer from an existing installation.  The person who wrote 98lite recommended that I start it from a new installation and use a copy of windows 95, I just pressed the delete key and went on with my life.  Windows 98 is plenty fast enough without al that crap!
