Hey,

So I've installed the VS2011 preview. See that ML / LINK have been updated to Version 11.xx .. Does anyone know what they've actually done to ML/ML64 for V11 ? (From my initial look it appears nothing.. they didn't add back invoke or hl macros etc to ML64) ...

Hi,

Ms is treating ML poorly, so don't expect too much from it in the future ...

With the wholesale move towards .NET, it's just a back-end tool, so it's unlikely it will be developed any further than updates for newer instructions.
They don't expect any sane person to code directly in assembler ::)

When they developed ml64 they made it clear that they were not going to extend it to handle the PROTO / INVOKE notation so I would not hold your breath waiting for them to change their mind. It does what they need it to do so they have little motivation to add much more to it.

It's very sad that clearly someone/or group of people at MS have the knowledge, and obviously some degree of enthusiasm to maintain it at all.. but would let it regress from how brilliant it was as a 32bit assembler.

Oh well.. such is the way of over-commercialization, large corporates and the profit incentive...

I guess luckily jwasm is coming on leaps and bounds to being a near perfect 64bit assembler.
