stubborn files

I had a program called Spyder Pro 3 which I have uninstalled.
I t has left a few big goodies in my puter.
Running Vista
Turned off UAC
Disabled ESET Smart Security
Have Administrator rights as I am the only one on this puter.
I can usually erase anything with DOS but not these files.
EX: spyder3.inf_28c8389f. It resides in c:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository
Couple of million bytes tied up.
Datacolor has not been able to offer suggestions as to how to get rid of their leftover
stuff that the uninstall did not remove.
Vista keeps on telling me that I do NOT have administrator rights when I do.
Sure don't want to have to reinstall Vista as I would lose all my settings (which I can't remember what they are).
Thanks for any help....

well - you could go into safe mode
or use an unblocker
HiJackThis can also delete files on re-boot
there is some setting in the registry that prevents it from being deleted (perhaps it is somehow read at boot)
i would try to get rid of that, first
CCleaner - run it - but do not let it automatically clean up the registry
it may show you the registry setting that is bugging you

Hi Dave,
Tried Safe Mode. Doesn't help at all.
I think it has to do with the permissions in Vista.
I've been dancing around with the permissions to no avail.
Thanks

http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/
or
http://lockhunter.com/
i suggest renaming the file and re-booting to see if there are going to be problems prior to deleting it

Neil

Try this :-
Right click & select properties
click security tag
click advanced tag
click owner tag
click edit tag
click administrator
click OK right back to windows explorer
right click properties
click security tag
click edit
click administrator
tick full control box
click Ok twice
now delete file

A bit long winded but it works

Thanks guys
Dave:  Be careful with "UNlocker".  ESET SS showed it contained a Virus.
Maybe a false positive but I deleted it before running it.
"Lockhunter" said the files were NOT locked.

Neil: Couldn't get your instructions to work. I am running Vista.
Will try some more. Must have done something wrong.

Have you tried deleting references to the program in the registry ?

And then deleting the files.

That has worked for me with some M.S. applications that like to "stick around".

Have a great day,

malwarebytes antimalware has a utility as part of its program called file assassin which ive used before to delete a stubborn file: flash.ocx - that would not delete in winsys folder. After installing new winxp installation old winsys folder could not be deleted coz of this one file - the fileassassin tool deleted it.

Thanks everyone for your help.
THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED.
A 5 minute job took 3 days. What a waste of time.
