Are there any recommendations for a book on MMX and SSE codes?

It could be a random act of randomness. Those happen a lot as well.

The first book you mentioned can be ordered for $5.53 total (shipping included), which is an awesome deal.

Indeed, there are a lot of "used" technical books than can be picked up cheaply, I've been expanding my library recently. I also like Alibris, and will often compare offerings, plus Alibris coupons are easier to find. eBay can be good at times, with a couple of Thrift stores in the Bay and Seattle areas.

I say "used" because I number of the offerings are practically new, there are certainly plenty of classic engineering and computer science texts, especially if you don't have to buy the most current edition the college students are using at $100+ a piece.

I'm pretty sure the earlier editions of Knuth, Aho, et al still provide an excellent foundation.

A 1986 copy of Compilers shipped for under $5
