The dreaded VersionInfo ...

Is it me?  Am I doing something wrong?  How could that be possible?

I happen to like VersionInfo as it carries a lot of useful information that you can impart to the user as long as they can see it.  I install the script in my .rc file and as long as I right click it in My Computer, Explorer or any third party file manager, all is well.  But if I put the file on the desktop (a shortcut to it, actually), the Version Info tab is replaced by the Shortcut tab.  Why is that?  Can there only be 3 tabs or something like that?

Any thoughts?

When you right click and choose properties, you are choosing properties of that particular file. (stating the obvious?)

So when you do it on a shortcut, you are getting the properties of the shortcut file (*.lnk), not the file it is "short-cutted" to.

If you were to copy the file to the desktop (without making a short cut), then you would be able to get the properties of the file, and thus your version info.

hmmm yes...I think that makes sense.

Wow....this is my first "helpful" reply. (if you can call it helpful??)  ::)

Don't worry, you're not going mad :lol there's a powertoy to show the properties of the file pointed to a shotcut when clicking on the lnk file. Your confusion probably comes from there...

Thanks Artoo, yes that is helpful.  The point that I am making is although it is a pointer to the exe, it does convey some information that related directly to the exe.  The icon, for example, has to be obtained from the exact same place as where the version info is stored in the exe.  So, why not show all?  In this context, it is not so obvious.  They appear to just want to use what they need and what may be useful to the user and the developer.
