Computer Boot Problem

Oh boy, my computer is so annoying. Check this out..

If my usb mouse is plugged in when i turn it on, i get the normal writing on the screen, but then it freezes, even before printing an error code, and even before an internal "beep" from the wee speaker. If i unplugg the mouse, it will boot fine - it loads up windows, i plug in my mouse, no problems at all.

How do i figure out what the problem is and how to fix it. The mouse isnt causing roblems on other pc's at boot time  :(

Any ideas anyone?

Is it the only mouse in the system? If you also have a touchpad, it could be a driver conflict. If it is the only mouse in the system, go to the website to get better drivers. For now, delte any drivers that may have been installed and use the microsoft default. This is what you are doing now, anyway, by hot plugging it.

I'am thinking power or BIOS issue - and not driver. Somehow the extra 5V pull
from the USB or pre-BIOS initialization check - is causing u're boot failure. Some
re-torical questions that might solve u're problem. :lol

Q:> Do you have extra fans and /or other usb devices plugged in aswell at boot time.
Q:> What's the load pull from your'e ATX power supply ? Are you on the limit?
Q:> Does a replacement USB mouse or PS/2 for that matter - do the same thing ?

Q:>How about a BIOS update for u're mother-board.

And most likely they are all different, and yet, I would bet newer than this one.  Draakie is right, it is a BIOS/motherboard issue during POST.  Some motherboards have settings for this.  And some older ones do not.

If this is the way you need to go, look into a USB to PS2 adapter for the USB mouse.

That's if he has a PS2 port, newer PCs no longer provide that option as USB is considered to be a better solution. I strongly doubt it is a motherboard issue as the loading is a constant drain and if that was the case, hot plugging would NOT work and he reports that it DOES work.

If there is ANY possability of it being a motherboard issue, the best solution would be to add a USB card to the machine so that the USB mouse can function as it was intended. This will also divide the problem in two making it easier to troubleshoot.

P1, I think you misread his post, he is saying that the SAME mouse works on another machine. You seem to think he is talking about more than one mouse.

  You can also try plugging in a USB keyboard and see if you get the same issue :)
