I am with Hutch,I am a hobby programmer, and an old fart..What I try to do is build something that is useful, seldom meet that goal, but it is fun trying.

There are so MANY great programs online, you seldom need to program something, someone already has. Most believe it or not are free, and open source. Or you find libraries of code already made to use for something.
I love being online because there is so MUCH information,I will never in my lifetime get to it all.

I started programming as a side interest when I decided to learn how the computers I was using every day worked. It was Iczelion and Randall Hyde who helped me out with some problems and brought me originally to Hiro's forum then to this one, it was debating politics etc.. with Hutch that kept me around afterwards. While I was learning the basics of Windows programming a few gurus (especially NaN, Sp00k and f0dder as well as Betov believe it or not) helped immensely and I started writing examples for the new crop of assembly programmers to repay that debt, its been my hobby ever since.

As for practical, I am far from that, with a few exceptions I have rarely written anything that has a practical application in my day to day life. Though I have written a couple of commercial programs, I regret it deeply since I wasn't thinking about the burden of supporting them when I accepted the moneys, a mistake I will never make again. My interest in programming is at best capricious, I will stay interested in a subject for a while then abandon it completely when something else catches my eye, not exactly a good character trait for a professional programmer.

I'm a 'Bee' programmer.... I get a bee in my bonnet.. and I program.
In the meantime I read tons of sh1t on APIs, DX.. that I'll probably never use, and forget regularly...  :red

Anyway I have a bee buzzing around my head at the moment.. so I'm busy  :green2

Old..                Never
Cantankerous... Nope, just charming
Bastard...         Nah!.. Hot and sizzling (wifey tells me  :green2)

This I think is the best quote I ever saw about assembler programming

Real programmers can write assembly code in any language.
