Hide process from process list

Hi,

Seeing as people seem to think I'm up to no good, and asking suspect questions, here's another one: how can I hide my service from the Processes tab of Task Manager, and preferably, from anything else that might try and enumerate running processes?

I see other services do it, and I want to do it, frankly.

I've looked around, and got a few ideas, but wondered if anyone here knew of a way? The only methods I found so far involve modifying the process list, or intercepting Task Manager specifically (but that doesn't sound very satisfactory).

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Astro.

This is the wrong forum for these questions   :dazzled:

Anyway, it's very difficult to reliably hide a process, especially with all the different OSes and 32/64 bit versions that are around. I tried it and then abandoned the idea, it's not worth the effort, I suggest you do the same.

I would delete this thread before the admins come down on you hard. There's close to 0 legit reasons you need to hide a process on a users system. If you're doing it to prevent users from terminating it unexpectedly, just create a service instead, as those cant be terminated, and you can control how its stopped or not.

Astro,

Consider yourself officially warned and asked to stop this kind of questions here.

Just to add to Bogdan's warning, other topics you have started on the same vein have been removed as you have betrayed a trust that we had placed with you in answering a number of questions. There is literally hundreds of years of low level programming experience in this forum and we collectively miss nothing, don't try this stunt again.

I owe Astro an apology here, he was very quick to respond to admin and after consulting with a number of people who have the appropriate expertise i am satisfied that he is writing a valid application of a sensitive commercial nature but it leaves us with a problem in that even though the application is a valid one, the questions involve technology that can be directly used by persons with malicious intent to secretly install software that can damage the operating system, user applications and shut the machine down in secret and to this extent, even though there are valid applications that need access like this, we neither can nor will allow this type of posting to be made in this forum as we have no way of controlling who has access to it.

With Astro in particular if we can help you in assembler related areas we will but there will be no further questions about low level privileged access to the operating system, stealth installation of services or any other software. We would also expect that no other member respond to matters of this type as this forum is setup in the United Kingdom and will fully comply with the laws of the United Kingdom.
