This is a strange one. At least IMHO.

My wife forwarded a Wind Mitigation Inspection report from her Puter running Windows XP Pro and OE to my Puter
running Ubuntu and TB. About half of the Xs were moved to different spots making the report worthless.
So I had her send the same e-mail a second time and I received it this time in Vista with TB. The report
was now identical to the one on her Puter. I've seen some strange things but this has me baffled.
How in the world could TB in Ubuntu selectively alter an e-mail?????
Needless to say I'm now a little leery of Ubuntu.
Must be some plausible explanation other than the worst.

I think the email was the same, but the program that opened it screwed up with the font/language/formatting.

More info on my above statement.
I have since found out there is a version of Foxit reader that is designed for Ubuntu/Thunderbird.
I managed to upload it and executed it. The email is in pdf format and is a report of a Wind Mitigation
Inspection for insurance reduction. So the person sending me this report would put a X in a box that
relates to a hip roof for example. The Xs did not appear when read by Foxit reader in Ubuntu.
So the problem is not resolved and I will have to use Vista/Thunderbird to read any pdf emails
that I get.

Try the official Adobe Acrobat Reader for Ubuntu.

For some poor soul that has the same problem with pdf files when in Thunderbird/Ubuntu that I have, here is a workaround. I
don't like it but it is better than going into Windows to solve the pdf problem.

1.    in Ubuntu go to Application/add
2.   add a program called "xpdf" (this is a pdf reader for Ubuntu)
3.   in Ubuntu create a folder for the pdf email in Places/home folder
4.   in Thunderbird access the pdf email
5.   Right click on the attachment
6.   in the next window point to the folder you created. Then in the right hand lower corner click on SAVE.
7.   exit Thunderbird
8.   in Ubuntu click on Places/home folder
9.   go to the folder you created
10. now you have the pdf file in Ubunbu wherre you can read it.
