Title: Can't sign on a website
Post by: shankle on August 24, 2007, 08:47:19 PM
I have been using a website for the past year with no problems. Now it's repeatedly
sending me back to the sign on screen. I have talked to the gurus at the site and
they tested at their end and say that the problem is with my machine. I have no
problems signing on any other site. I have Spyware Detector and have talked to
them about the problem and they say that their software is not the cause.
I am running Windows XP Pro and the fixes are up to date, Registry Mechanic,
NOD32 and CCleaner. I have been through internet options in the control panel
and do not see any reason there for my problem.
It's got to be some setting in my machine....
Appreciate any help,
JPS

Try deleting any cookies from the site, clear the cache etc.

I clear cookies many times a day with "CCleaner".

The reason you usually 'stay' logged in to a website is because the login session is stored in a cookie. So if you're losing your login, and therefore have to keep re-logging in, then something must be removing your cookie (or not allowing it to be stored.)
If other sites work then it must be something specific with this site's cookie, or your browser isn't storing cookies for this particular site (it's possible to set per-site exceptions), or one of your 'protection' programs is doing something similar.
So, first check through your browser's settings, specifically those relating to cookies and their acceptance/blocking. Then maybe the other program's settings.

Another possibility is that the browser is not seeing an update to the site. Even though you "clear cache" the browser may not detect when certain parts of a webpage are changed. If they've updated their login functions for instance, your browser could be still trying to do something with an old file or similar. Try pressing F5 or choosing "refresh page" from the menus. If that doesn't help, try another browser. FireFox is easy to install and uninstall, visit http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ and give it a shot.

Semi-fixed.
After keying in login info I went to top of screen and hit "view"
and then "refresh". This got me into the site but it has to be
done everytime I sign on the site. So something else is wrong.
