Title: Slight confusion regarding MASM - was MASM once something you had to pay for?

MASM was or is a retail product, is MASM32 not the same thing as MASM? Have Microsoft allowed it to be used in a non commerial way under their license?

Yes,

MASM was once a commercial product. Read the enclosed Microsaoft EULA for your legal rights of use. Any further enquiries should be made with the Microsoft corporation.
