IDA Pro (http://www.datarescue.com/idabase/) is one of the best disassemblers available, but rather pricy.
Every now and then DataRescue release an older version as freeware. These used to be the console version, but a while back they released a freeware version of the GUI version of IDA Pro v4.3.
While it does lack some things from the full commercial package, it's fully functional and comes with what you need to work with PE files :U.
It can be obtained from Simtel (http://www.simtel.net/product.php%5Burl_fb_product_page%5D83756).
Thats gr8!! I always wanted to get a copy of that!! But the only free edition they had then was not very useful. I am downloading it right now!!

Thanks for the tip. :U

Thanks Jibz :U
Just a note; a buffer overflow vulnerability (http://secunia.com/advisories/13980/) was found in IDA, which appears to have been present for a long time, including in the freeware version mentioned here. It's unlikely to be a problem, but still it's nice to know. According to this thread (http://www.datarescue.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=000146;p=0) they already fixed it in the latest release, and are going to fix it in the freeware version 'soonish' :U.

Simple solution, don't surf the net with IDA Pro. :green2
