Title: Hardware guru needed
Post by: skywalker on November 10, 2005, 10:40:33 PM
My computer isn't recognizing my mouse or modem anymore.
It was also saying something else wasn't present or not
working but
I forgot which. I think it was the serial bus controller.

Is there a listing of key commands. I remember a lot but
not enough.
:-)

Thanks.

Assuming your mouse and modem are connected to the serial bus (COM ports), then it's all down to your serial controller.
First check that it hasn't 'accidentally' been disabled in the bios. Then check that it's enabled and there's a (valid) driver in windows.
After that, you may have to check for burn marks on your motherboard :eek
If all else fails, Dr Kellog may be able to help you ::)

Need more information.

Did you install something recently?

Survey says, "You shot yourself in the foot."   :green2

I got the mouse going by resetting BIOS to the defaults.
I'll make do without the modem and pretend it's the old days with only a VGA resolution.

:-)

CD player is still cranking and most importantly I can still go to DOS. (for the real power users)

Outta here.
