Title: Latest toy.
Post by: hutch-- on December 20, 2011, 03:38:30 AM
I have been working building a set of kitchen cupboards and while I have been doing OK, I needed a larger drop saw so after looking around I ended up buying a Bosch compound saw. i went first to an Aldi store but they had sold out of a cheapie they advertised, then went to a big hardware chain "Bunnings" and saw a Ryobi compound saw I liked but they had no stock. Next choice was the Bosch at $100 more expensive so after muttering about the total extra cost I bought the Bosch.

Took a couple of days to find all of the adjustments but I have it cutting dead square and properly matching the pre-set angles on the radial table. At my age you do not wait for Christmas presents, you buy your own.  :bg

Looks like a nice gadget Dave, I own a small one that is just a drop saw and get very good results with it but it could not cut wide enough, only 4 inches safe. The new one cuts over 10 inches and something like 4 inches deep so I could use it for floor joists if necessary.

Just looking at the blade size, it would have to cut over 6 inches.

yes - i was noticing the movable head on yours
reminds me of an ole' bridgeport mill   :P
i have never seen that before on a compound mitre saw

well - if i want to cut something deep, i put it on a table saw
but, compound saws are just fast and easy

on this one, the head will tilt for angle cuts - a feature some do not have
i thought it was a good one for sis because it has a couple work holder features   :bg
she is somewhat accident prone and i don't want her to be "Four-Fingers Marie"

my mom already has one   :P
85 years old and still cutting stuff (she can frame a door as fast as any man i know - lol)
she went and bought herself a new circular saw - a nice ryobi
the one she didn't have was a jig-saw - so that's what she is getting
