Title: Should I be paranoid ?
Post by: donkey on December 12, 2011, 11:18:48 PM
I check my email security weekly and since GMail is kind enough to provide the IP addresses of every session or attempted log on its a fairly easy thing to do. I have had unsuccessful log on attempts from places like Turkey, Russia etc... But a while back I got a weird one, it was from Chiyoda Japan, more specifically the Imperial Palace. Now I'm pretty sure that the Emperor of Japan has at best only a passing interest in my emails which consist mainly of programming related subjects and platitudes to my family and friends so I figured it had to be some sort of IP hijacking. Course I could be wrong but that would just be paranoid - right ?

Note that the attempt was on Nov. 27 but since I informed the owner of the IP address I decided to wait for them to respond before I brought it up. Access to my email was not granted as far as I can tell without going through all of the trouble of contacting GMail but if you got any strange emails from me it was either the hacker or I was drunk. If it involves buying viagra or penis enlargers it was probably that I was drunk ;)

I always paranoid, I guess that was the side effect from methamphetamine. Damn, it always gave me a false memory. Damn it.

it's quite likely that the would-be (wanna-be) hacker was "bouncing" through the Imperial Palace (IP)   :P

of course, you may have been drunk, too
damn Canadians - lol

it is not really Paranoid to concern yourself with safty online. I have had friends that were online, and they were stupid about safty, and I could not get through to them that you need a firewall, and to use common sense online. Even now, when the online content is mostly Business, not at all like the early days when the internet was something of a wilderness.there are still parils to going online.
