Title: Disks are getting faster.
Post by: hutch-- on August 26, 2011, 01:45:46 PM
I just recently bought two new 1tb disks for the i7, plugged them into the 2 SATA 6gig ports and clocked them with HDTUNE. The first pair of 3gig interface SATA disks transfer data at just on 100 meg/sec, the new pair on the 6gig interface transfer data at just under 130 meg/sec. Price has really come down as well, I found a place in West OZ that had these disks at $56.00 each and they arrived today. Progress I guess.

I pulled out a new pair of 320 gig sata2 disks which will be useful on one of my PIVs so I have not wasted them which is something from the wreck.  :bg

I installed a 2TB sata disk on my computer about 6 months ago, but I kept windows on my old IDE drive because I didn't want to go through all the trouble of having to reinstall all my programs, but i finally switched windows to the new disk and my computer runs so much faster. I should have done it a long time ago. I am only using about a quarter of the drive now, but knowing the way technology progresses, I bet I will outgrow it in a few years. It is like when you move to a bigger house - you end up filling up all the closets eventually.
