Title: How Good Are You Guys At Lying ???
Post by: baltoro on July 13, 2011, 10:15:51 PM
Some people are naturals at it,...and, other people start shaking uncontrollably, hyperventilate,...they can't make eye contact, they sob pathetically, and, burst into flames. Some people actually believe that you can go to hell for lying,...
But, in this Brave New World,...with everyone sharing the most intimate and embarrassing details of their lives with millions of complete strangers on television,...this is an issue with serious Darwinian implications.
You never know when you will be confronted by some dangerous psychopath,...and your immediate existence may very well depend on your ability to spontaneously copnvince the guy that the KGB has installed a bomb in his head, and the matchbook that you're holding is actually a cleverly disguised remote control,...and, the good news is,...he won't feel a thing.
Investment Bankers, Politicians, Corporate Lawyers, Spies, Insurance Brokers, Military Recruiters. Televangelists, Celebrities, and, O.J., are ALL LIARS.
Lying is glamorous,...lying is fun,...and, best of all: lying can make you fabulously rich.

Lies is not as much of a sin as it is a handicap. If you find yourself in the need to lie you have a handicap, but it is also a "sin". White lies is tolerable in small quantities, but dont make it a habit of calling it a white lie if you use them on a daily basis. A white lie has gray corns of noise on top of it, if you add enough white lies it will become dark gray, possibly black.  :naughty:

I haven't practiced lies too much so I am probably not too good at it. How nervous you get depends how much you underestimate the other person. I tend to NOT underestimate people so I will probably be a bit nervous if I find myself in such a situation. Even if I got stuck in such a situation I prefer to keep quiet than to lie.

My favorite computer related joke:

What's the difference between a Used-Car salesman, and a Computer "Expert"?

The Used-Car salesman knows when he's lying!

FARRIER,
Damn,...that is funny,...really,...

I think what makes lying so incredibly popular is that: IT'S SO EASY !!!

High-fructose corn syrup is good for you.
Have it pipelined intravenously into one arm,...and, Propofol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propofol) into the other.

SEE ??? EASY !!!

Lying is a necessary part of social etiquette. And arguably a sign of intelligence.

I'm a terrible liar.

Fooled you!

Lying is a necessary part of social etiquette. And arguably a sign of intelligence.

You may achieve benefits, but the lies will catch up with you. If you start to believe in lies and use it intelligibly and you really believe it can be used for a purpose, you won't stop using lies. It is just a matter of time before the lies will come back and make troubles for you.

People detect lies but they will not point it out, for the most part. The liar will probably think that he is successful but people have a grip on him. There is more to people than plain simple word-games, we probably give hundreds of unconscious signals that is picked up by whoever is listening.

However if you practice lies it will likely become a natural part of you and it will not be that big a problem for you, but what happens if someone points them out, unexpected, right in your face and THEN you become more aware of the liar you are. Will you continue to be the same good liar?  :P

You'd have to become the "perfect liar"

I have to say that, lies is more than words too, it is amazing how much of the social language that is "practiced" and has little to do with reality. We lie all the time using our body language, the tone of your voice, even the way you dress can be a lie. Non-verbal lies can be an effective tool to keep verbal lies at a minimum. The more obvious you are the less questions will be asked.  :snooty:

If you appear as a gray ghost, faceless, uncharming, people will start to ask questions about you. Showing yourself as the person you want to be can be an effective lie.

i suggest that truth and lies come in many degrees, in the simple sense to a particular event you can feed the answer through a YES or NO but try answering your wife of girlfriend if she asks you how she looks before going out somewhere.

Get it wrong and you can end up in the dog house so "Stunning as usual my dear" or similar is a survival mechanism, not a misrepresentation of the facts.

hutch, can't you just, SMILE to her when she is asking?  :lol

BTW: I definitely do not consider it a lie to charm your wife or girlfriend, most definitely not, not even "god" would consider it a lie.

The problem is that the word LIE is simplistic, I certainly do not support misrepresentation of a situation to mislead someone for profit (This product will make you look 20 years younger) (This bottle of Snake Oil[tm] will cure all things) etc .... but in most instances the simplistic distinction does not do the job. Think of a kid running a race who came last and while the simplistic truth was he did real bad, tact say you say to the kid, "You did OK, at least you tried".

You guys are so philosophical. I take a much more pgragmatic approach. It's not a moral issue.
Where I live, lying is pervasive. Everybody does it,...all the time. It's like the Late Heavy Bombardment (crappy metaphor).
And, let's face it,...alot of people wouldn't know the truth if it bit them in the ass.

A liar who wants an honest man to become a liar, isn't honesty appreciated among liars?  :bdg
