Title: full install of windows7 with upgrade media
Post by: shankle on May 27, 2011, 10:53:10 PM
I had Vista installed and with an upgrade disk of  windows 7 I am now running Windows 7.
There is a way to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 using this upgrade media.
Has anyone tried it? If so did you have any trouble with activation?

I'm thinking, if I ever want to upgrade to Windows 8, 9 , 10, I should have a full install of Windows 7.
Your thoughts please.

Jack,

I installed Win7 64 bit from a retail installation so that I could reinstall it any time I liked or change from one computer to another at a later date but this will probably depend on what Win7 version you have. I paid a fortune for the Ultimate version where an OEM is a lot cheaper but with restrictions on re-installation. I would check out the version you have first before you try any upgrades.

Haven't tried it, but method 3 is apparently supported by Microsoft (custom install then upgrade that installation).

Thank you for responding Hutch and Sinsi.
I am running Windows 7 Professional. Price was so cheap I though I should dump Vista.
Got it on Flebay. Seems a policy with these never ending OS from Microsoft would be to wait 2 years
and go on Flebay and see what you can get cheap.
Of course I would do a full backup with Macrium Reflect before attempting this.
Yes Sinsi, I've been on that site and the info seems to be solid.
