Title: Downloading and installing MASM8.0
Post by: Joe Btfsplk on February 08, 2011, 07:57:40 PM
I downloaded Microsofts MASM8.0 and tried to install it. IT says that "Microsoft Visual C++ Express Edition 2005 must be installed". I tried to find somebody at Microsoft to get Visual C++ Express Edition 2005 but they are so disorganized that all I could get from them was that they don't know what MASM is and they don't support Visual C++ Express Edition 2005 any more. Microsoft is so messed up that they haven't even fixed the bugs that I tried to report to them in WINDOWS XP. Does anyone here have MASM8.0 that they can zip and send to me?

basically, there is nothing to install, as far as masm goes
other than placing it in a PATH'ed folder

anyways - there are newer versions of masm - 9 and 10 - from newer versions of VC

what you may want to install is the masm32 package (upper right corner of forum)
then - place the newer masm exe in the \masm32\bin folder

Joe,

For the price of a big download, get the current version of VC from Microsoft and use that version of ML.EXE (version 10). Version 9.0 works fine as well. There are licencing issues that prevent other users from being able to send you copies but you can download the complete package yourself directly from Microsoft.

Joe,

Here's the link for VC 2010 Express Edition.

http://www.microsoft.com/express/Downloads/#2010-Visual-CPP

If you don't need SSE2 or later then MASM32 is all you need and is a much smaller download. The link is up in the right corner of this page.
