Whenever I try to run any of the folllowing, I get the message below:

Control Panel
Network Connections
Printers and Faxes

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."

I have run Spybot and MalwareBytes.

What can I check next?

well - i saw a virus that caused something similar, once

Whenever I want to eliminate the possibility that malware may be responsible for unsual behaviour of my computer, I generally try HouseCall to scan it.
