The "fellers" at MSFN and the newsgroups are speechless.
I have a program called phonebk.exe that stopped working under XP Home.
It starts fine and no error messages when it is dialing a number. (in lieu of using the dialer on my land line phone.)
No errors of any kind in the event viewer.
I can send and receive faxxes great, so I would assume it isn't a hardware issue.
perhaps it is sending an AT command to the modem - waiting for a response
at any rate...
the program may allow you to configure differently for voice and faxes
i would look over the configuration menus again
The only option is a command line parameter. -Pxxx where xxx is the port number.

I asked in MSFN if they have recommendations about where I could get help.
I am wondering if XP support is being "kicked to the curb." (unofficial like)
I may end up looking for another freeware program that will work.
My current one is real handy because besides storing phone numbers, it lets you store notes as well.
Found the problem.
I had set the fax modem to receive to get some bank faxxes.
As soon as I turn it off, my phone dialer worked again.
It's almost always something simple.
Think I will make a batch that flashes, "Turn the receive back off when finished receiving."
whenever I fire up fxsclnt.exe.
