I don't mean to clog the orphanage with my questions but here goes another one.
Has anyone heard of or used the goodies on a site called "nirsoft.net"?
I don't see why I would need any of them and there is a bunch of them.
As far as I can tell they are free.
There is a supposedly a better one called "WSCC".
BUT BEWARE I just found out that they might contain viruses.
Kills them as far as I'm concerned.
hi Jack
Nircmd.exe is widely used and distributed as kind of a "batch helper" utility
it can do all kinds of little things from opening or closing the CD drive door to beeping the speaker
it is actually several programs rolled into one that may be selected at the command line
very handy little tool (and well-known)
Hi Dave,
So you know about this one and have not had any bad things happen to your puter?
oh no - that particular program is very well known :P
many of the other utilities on that site are also included into the Nircmd program
it is a safe source for utilites, although there is always an opportunity to screw something up if you do the wrong thing :bg
There are absolutely no virus-infected programs at nirsoft.net.
A lot of the software there deals with recovering lost passwords, and so much of it has been flagged as software usable for malicious purposes; script-kiddie malware authors have used some of his software to steal serial keys and harvest passwords, etc.
But aside from some of his stuff being misused, it's all on-the-level on its own.
