Title: Windows XP DDK
Post by: dedndave on February 09, 2010, 06:32:36 PM
i see that MassiveSoft has made it impossible to d/l older DDK's
they now have one Massive SDK/DDK package that includes libraries etc for win 7
i would really, really like to have a copy of the "Windows XP DDK"
there are probably different versions :) - something around 2003-2005 maybe ?
i suppose there are others for win2K and even older - i wouldn't mind having those, either
but mainly, can anyone tell me where i might acquire the XP DDK ?
send me a PM if you'd like to keep it out of the forum - i will send you my e-mail addy   :U

There is information on how to get the Windows Server 2003 DDK from Microsoft  here (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/ddk/default.mspx), although I did not actually attempt to download it.

i've used it in the past to test stuff, it's pretty simple, no GUI though, just cmdtools :) if you have trouble finding it let me know.  :U

thanks for the suggestions, guys
i think the win 2003 server is essentailly a win 2K ddk (umm - with the server stuff), no ?
anyways - that was one i was able to find on moolasoft

i seem to recall a site with a name something like "ftpsearch" - i think i will give that a shot   :U

cube - thanks much - i will exhaust the other methods - i may come to you
if i do, i have a fileshare you can upload to - it has a 100mb limit
the iso i am looking for is 139 mb - it would only need to be split in 2 - not too bad   :bg

Where did you find it?  I would like to dl it too just to have.  I got the DDK from MS few years back and I don't think I paid for it (I have it on an official MS disk :-)

I had a look on my oloder box and I don't have any DDK for XP, earliest I coud find apart from the win98ddk which I keep for legal reasons was a server2003SDK which would not be much use to you.

addy = address   :8)
that's a nice archive list UtillMasm   :bg
i think a couple are duplicates
not sure what the 1830_usa_ddk is, though
you can probably put them in order of size to determine which OS they are for

1830 is Windows Server 2003.

1830_usa_ddk.iso == Windows Server 2003 DDK

This is the last DDK before they were superceded by the WDK. It should contain stuff relevant to XP also, as it was meant to service the current (for that time) NT based operating systems.

Ghandi

according to Ghandi, the 1830_usa_ddk.iso is the last one before they "upgraded" to WDK's
"undocumented" link   :P

Hi,

The Windows DDK as it is now known is backwards compatible to Windows 2000. It may support Win 7 but you don't have to use it - just be careful to pick functions supported by the earliest OS you're writing for and you're good to go, allegedly.............

The same is true for the Windows SDK (formerly Platform SDK). I haven't found anything that doesn't work yet.

Best regards,
Robin.

the fact is, the older DDK's/SDK's are the only way to find out what the level of support for different functions was
the MSDN library gets updated with all the new windows 7 stuff
all the old information that applied to win2000 and xp gets lost
if you want to write apps that work on older platforms, you need the documentation
