i don't know version 6.1, but why don't you upgrade to the latest version?

Don't use MASM.EXE use ML.EXE. IIRC, MASM.EXE is a DOS application that just calls ML.EXE. And yes, get the MASM32 package which has ML.EXE v6.14.
