peculiar difference between Vista and XP

I have a program that has been working for years in XP.
The same program fails in Vista.
I can write a test program to write a line of musical eighth rests using SetPixel to create them.
This will list a solid line of eighth rests from one side of the screen to the other in XP.
In Vista the same program will have a large gap near the left side and a large gap near the
right side. This also happens with quarter rests and the eight tails on notes. In the same place
where those gaps occur other items will list. Lines, ellipses, numbers, letters etc.
