GDI+ image resizing

This is my first dabble into GDI+.  I'm using  http://www.masm32.com/board/index.php?topic=870.0  as an example to resize images (jpg,png,bmp) into a static control.  When I use the source pixel format as the destination format, and the source format is 030803h it results in a black picture.  If the source format is 030803h but I use 021808h as the destination format it works.  I couldn't find a bit by bit description for the pixel formats.  Could it cause a problem if I just IGNORE the source format and ALWAYS use 021808h for the output image?  Where can I find a detailed description of the pixel formats?  Thanks.
