MASM to MASM32

I bought MASM 6.11a when it was new. I never updated past 6.11d because I had no problems with it and I was not interested in Windows. I started giving up DOS in 1999, but never have totally left it behind.

My Athlon box with Win2000 is big enough to do it all. So I want to take my 12 year old Pentium out of service to save floor space and electricity.

To keep writing for DOS, should I install MASM in addition to MASM32? And if I do, are there any issues I should know about for installing and using MASM in Win2000?

My only Win32 programming so far has been with Python, so I don't presently have much familiarity with the API.

You can do 16-bit DOS coding with the assembler V6.14 coming with the Masm32 package. The linker supplied with Masm32 does not support 16-bit object files, so you must to use the linker in Masm V6.11a.

Alternatively, you can download the linker V5.60.339 from :

Hi raven,

Welcome on board. there is no reason why upi cannot have both on the same machine and even on the same drive/partition, as long as you don't try and name them with the same directory name.

MASM32 Installs in the MASM32 directory, just place masm 6.11d in its default directory of MASM. Then you can do both seperately without one effecting the other.
