startup problem

When starting up Windows 98 2nd ed I get 4 files listed as errors:
     
      vnetsup.vxd
      vredir.vxd
      dfs.vxd
      msnp32.dll

I probably deleted something that left entries in the Registry.
Registry Mechanic doesn't fix them.
I've been up on Microsoft reading about this and they give instructions on
how to fix the problem for Windows 95 not Windows 98 2nd ed. Plus a
lot of warnings about messing around with the "Registry". Since I know next
to nothing concerning "Registry" mechanics I am reluctant to make any
changes.
If  I knew what program uses the above 4 items I could reinstall it.

Big problem,in most of the case , you have to reinstall something.
You can try the tool "informations system" in the "tools system",sometimes he can repair the damage and find what is to reinstall,that all.

Hi, I had the same problem on my Windows 98 PC. The solution for me: 1) To get rid of the vredir.vxd and msnp32.dll errors, I uninstalled the Microsoft networking client (Start -> Control Panel -> Network, highlight Microsoft Networking, click Remove, OK, restart PC) 2) This left the dfs.vxd error. For this one, I just had to delete the key for it out the registry. To do this, Start -> Run, type regedit, click OK. Click Edit -> Find, type dfs.vxd, click Find Now. It found one entry in my entire registy. I deleted just that one key (highlight dfs.vxd on the right-hand side and hit the delete key on your keyboard). You might want to save your registy before you mess with it, to do this, click File -> Export Registry. I hope this helps someone!
