A different version of fixedsys that is slightly larger.

I can justify owning a Linux box just for this purpose, the Fontforge font program that runs as a native Unix app on Linux. The current offering is a 1 pixel wider and 1 pixel higher version of FIXEDSYS that seems to be displaying OK on my computer. To try it out you install it into your font directory with the font program in Control panel then see if it looks any good with the editor you use.

On M$ Windows Home Edition SP2, with screen set at 1152 x 864 x 32 looks ok. However, sizes lower than 10 - I think- are interpreted as 10.

[edit]
Same for fixedsys so ignore that comment. :)
On 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 looks even better!!!
[/edit]

At higher sizes there's no problem.

Nice font, thanks. I have alway been partial to FixedSys, until recently, my new favorite is Consolas.
Microsoft makes it a pain to get it (as usual  :tdown), but if you have any of the Visual Studio Express Editions you can install it. Why they can't just make the single font file available I don't understand. It's really an excellent monospaced font, it even has a slashed zero :thumbu. Try it out.

hutch--

I have done a few fiddles after using it for a day or so. The upper case V was not different enogh from the upper case U so I changed it, raised the square brackets up by a pixel so they beter lined up with typed code.

The native font size is 11 points so I renamed the font to fixed11.fon.

A long time ago there used to be fonts that you could load into rom and back then I used to have dozens of different fonts with different styles as I hated the standard rom font for dos. This one is not dis-similar to some of the SWISS varieties that were available back them.

Greg,

I had a look at the link but it looks like too much hassle to get the download so I did not bother.

This is what the 11 point version looks like.
