Internet stuff

I was wondering what commands to use for sending/recieveing stuff over the internet.

Basically - i want to make a mini chat room program, but then adapt it into a game of pong to be played accross the net with 2 people.

I havent a clue about this - so can someone point me in the right direction of tutorials or examples. Thanks a bucket!
