What happenes when your old box that uses Windows 98 goes bellyup and you have to
put Windows XP etc. on your new box????
For instance my new Dell has Windows XP. I tried to load Windows 98 in another partition
and all I got was one incompatibility error after another. It seems that the new hardware
is incompatible with Windows 98.

You are right, sort of. You need the Win9x drivers for the hardware you are running, you should be able to just go to the Dell site and download them.
