Just got Acronis true image & Disk Director 9.0

True Image works fine if you remember to do a check after running it.
Seems that you must also format the cd/dvd  before running it.

Having trouble with D.D. I want to create Two partitions with Windows XP.
I can install Windows XP in the 1st partition with no problem. I then do a copy
to put Windows XP in the 2nd partition. This also works. Then the trouble starts.
Can't bring up the 1st partition. It always goes to the 2nd partition. I've tried
loading it all again. No luck. Read the manual. Played with activate/noactivate.
I think the problem might be "NTFS". First of all what is NTFS??? Why can't I use Fat32???
Maybe D.D. will work with FAT32 and Windows XP.

Would also like a partition with Windows 98. That seems like a lost cause.
I have an OEM version of Windows 98. When I try to load it on the newer machine
it complains of missing hardware dlls. Also loading it after Windows XP might wipe out the
Windows XP.

It takes days to get any help from Acronis though they do respond.

Your thoughts would be most appreciated,
JPS

Hi, NTFS is the NT File System. The default WinXP install kinda steers you into using this file system. Okay, maybe in typical M$ fashion it kinda bullies you into it. :) NTFS has its pros and cons - it allows compression of files and folders natively, and optionally encryption (any encrypted data is permanently inaccessible from any other user account - careful!) NTFS is also great for video or other large-file writing because there is no 2-or-4GB filesize limitation.

Take a look at the c:\boot.ini file and see if it is set to boot from partition 1 instead of partition 0, this might be why the second partition is only booting. That file can be edited to give you a "boot menu." Search google for instructions.

BEWARE.....
Disk Director Suite 9.0 doesn't work for me on Windows XP with NTFS.
Even though they have a no questions asked refund policy I have been trying
for over 10 days to get a refund. They want me to trade for another of their
products. Now why would I want to risk another product of theirs when they put
products on the market that are not properly tested. And they really don't honor
their refund policy that is posted on their web site.

shankle,
The last Windows install, any OS, always takes precedennce.  Reformat both partitions then install XP to the second partition (D) first.  Then install XP to the first partition (C).  Now it will default to the installation on (C).  The same applies to WIN98, you must install it first on (D) or (E) and then XP on (C).

Shankle,
Also, the reason for the refund trouble is because once the seal is broken, anyone could just copy the CD and then get a refund.  They, at least, are trying to meet you halfway.  If it was my company, once the seal is broken, no refund, period.
