.. something with no frills (eg: unwanted net activity) and fast, to replace google and other 'too popular' ones.

Maybe some of you guys have good experience on a favourite..

That's funny... :bg
It'll probably play rap to you while you search....

It'll probably be worse than google. I think for technically minded people there's is a market for no frills, ads, picture 'blogging/bloating' websites.
Straight text and next to the search results, maybe a teeny weeny  little advertiser icon with a link... no more than that. No stats collection extra web apis tracking you IP selections..etc.

IOW, a 'trustworthy' website..

Twister

https://startpage.com/

It uses Google's search engine, but does the search through their service. No tracking cookies or the likes. I'm guessing this is what you mean. I would take it since it uses Google's power engine.

I was going to make a joke about using gopher (the original internet 'search engine' - before there was even WWW), but someone got there first -- www.gopher.com

(Though it's really just another identity of http://www.webcrawler.com/)

And some others.. http://www.altavista.com/  http://www.ask.com/  http://www.bing.com/  http://www.excite.com/  http://www.lycos.com/  http://www.yahoo.com/
