I guess they forgot to put a fuse on the battery, Which from an educated guess would be lithium.

You know you could make a bomb of sorts from this battery type.
Get a larger capacity battery type on your phone.. rig it for shortcircuit on receiving an sms/phonecall.
Dump the phone in a flamable section of the plane..
Get off plane and phone your phone when the plane next takes off.. then watch the fireworks.

It's feasible,a s the Xray security will only see a cell phone.....

yes - from what i understand about lithiums, altitude alone is enough to make them go off
well - low air pressure, i suppose
