Yet another stupid war America needs to bring to an end!

Portugal legalizes drugs. Crime/Usage falls.

This seems to be consistent across much of the world, get the huge profits out of it and there is far less motivation for people to try dangerous drugs. I am in favour of criminalising the supply of hard drugs (shoot the bastards) but users should not be the patsies for criminals who supply this sh*t to make a fast buck. The other factor is for the government to handle the supply of drugs so that the profit in crime falls to ZERO. An ex addict under controlled conditions on a safe and clean supply of smack (heroine) is no risk to anyone and there is no motive of having to raise large sums of money to feed a smack habit.

Regarding drugs:
Why not simply do as we do with alcohol? When was the last time you hear of a person robbing another one in order to get money for a bottle of rum? Legalization will lower the cost, which in turn will make drugs less attractive to sell (just like with alchohol).

Regarding law:
Law enforcement and the legal business are a ridiculous HUGE business. Thus there is a conflict of interest between having fair laws and having laws that provides a stream of work for the legal profession. Add the fact that most politicians are also lawyers, and you will get the picture that this will not change on its own.

I do not think that is the result of a conspiracy to slave the people. But the result of the greed of many factions. In Ghost in a shell, they call this the "stand alone complex". Which basically is when unrelated individuals seeking their own agenda act like it was a conceived conspiracy.

On a perfect world, laws should be a simple as possible. That way:
A : All citizens know what the laws are and why they are in place.
B : We have a police that actually know the law they are supposed to uphold.
C : You will not need to be rich in order to get justice.
D : We would not have legal predators. (Specially patent trolls).
