Google Search Applications

Anyone know of any good Google search applications ? I've been reading "Google Hacks : 100 Industrial Strength Tips & Tools" but haven't been able to find some of the things the books recommends ( GAPIS - Google Api Search Tool , etc .. ). What languages can I use the Google Api with ( if its still available - not sure )? Thanks for any information!

There was a time when the www was something fun to use, nice little homepages with green and flashy things, perhaps a little bit background midi music.

Today, all I ever hear about is facebook. The damn facebook, I hope google+ can soften facebook up a bit, we seriously need to "dampen" the trend a bit.
