hutch--

Sad to ay my old Ford had to go, pigs, local councils, trees, thieves, vandals and parking damage (from other people) finally PHUKED the body beyond what I could fix when you had to work in the street. Removed the vehicle identification plate (compliance plate) so the car can never be re-birthed and sold it to a dealer in Victoria to break for spare parts.

If there is one lesson I learnt, never own an old rare car unless you have an unknown off street location to hide it.

reminds me of the car Mad Max had   :P
you're not Mad Max, are you ?

dedndave

oh - that's right
he had an interceptor    :bg

i don't think that scoop is big enough

still, you'd make a good Mad Max   :lol
we'll call you "Mad Masm"

hutch--

Mad Max was 1 year later model, and XB Coupe. The XA would kick its arse performance wise, they were the last "supercar" before the law was changed to prevent manufacturers from making them. The one in Mad Max was a phony, this one was the real MkCoy.

That's too bad Steve. Here in the States you could have sold the old girl for a pretty good buck regardless of its shape. My nephew owns this old 69 Mustang that we spent many hours restoring from a complete rust bucket. Thing is since he got his law degree and moved away its been sitting in our old shop garage for over five years now without being run down the road some to keep things lubed. I told him if he didn't start giving it some attention that the seals will dry up and the cylinders will rust but his career must come first. He's been offered $12,000 for it as it sits but won't sale. He hopes to one day put the money into it that it deserves.

EDIT: I left out a zero on that $12,000 offer.

Yeah over here they changed the law so that new cars needed the catalyctic converter, in 1975 (I think).
The XA was 1972-1974, so you could run a full leaded engine. The XB missed the window, so had the converter.
From memory it used to sap the horsepower by about 15%.

Anyway, Max's interceptor was a 4-door sedan (although he got the 'last of the interceptors' which was a specially-built coupe).

Funny: I watched mad max 2 recently and looking at the driving scenes you can tell that they are sped up at least 3x.
Not noticed on the big cinema screen but obvious on the little teev.

yah - i have no doubt that they could make the car go fast
but getting the camera crew to go fast wasn't easy back then   :P

Hi sinsi,

Here in PA if its a classic you don't need a cat, otherwise all vehicles must have one. The thing about this stang is it would run much better if you could put leaded gas in it. They do make a fuel additive that helps out just a bit.
