The title translates to my mini Gerni cleaner turned up today, a week late but at least its here. All I need to do now is learn how to fly it. I downloaded the manual last night so it was no big deal to put it together with the right bits in the right place. I still have to set up a length of hose from the water mains tap to the gadget but that should not be a big deal to do.

Thats nice! Are you planning on using that on your old brick Steve? I have never heard of the company Gerni. I looked it up they are a Danish company now merged with Nilfisk-ALTO of Australia. We call things like that pressure washers here in the states. I don't own one but I have rented them in past. Makes a tough job much easier for sure. :bg

The bricks are the first task but I want to see what I can do with it, its been years since I used one and it was greate for cleaning crap out of a dirty sandstone wall, looked like a new one again. Even though I cleaned the brick by hand years ago, many still have lime mortar stains and dirt on the usable face and its a pain to have to clean this off manually. The other thing I want to try out is on the wall I have already laid as you get some modern motar staining even when you are very tidy with them. The more I can get out of them the easier the next task is of cleaning the finished wall with dilute hydrochloric acid before sealing it with an old timer, "Thompson's Water Seal". Brings out the color of the bricks without encapsulating them so that the don't trap water.

Gerni is almost a generic name here but it appears they have only recently merged with Nilfisk who have a reputation for good quality vacuum cleaners, usually industrial standard stuff. I did a brain pick on the guy at Nilfisk to find ut what I needed in the first place. There are cheaper ones around but Gerni has the reputation and generally has better quality high pressure pumps than the cheapies.

First play is genuinely impressive, rigged it up with a hose and the high pressure nozzle and tested it out on some scrap in the back yard. On soft or damaged sandstone it will rip bits out of it but on a cement rendered wall it will blow all of the crap out of the surface without doing damage to the surface. The real win is on the old bricks, they are well fired and very hard and it reduces the cleaning time to seconds to clean all of the dirt and old lime mortar out of the surfaces without damaging the bricks.

I am not impressed by much but this comes close.
